As shown in the product photos and description, this top appears to be a screw-on or screw-off device. Rather, there is just a notch to hold the top in place. Normally this kind of top works fine for me, but I've experienced problems in the past with this type. I use these to fill my mugs with powder (powdered sugar, flour, cornstarch), but it gets caught in the notch, making it near impossible to remove to refill. As of yet, I have only returned to fill one of them. Even though it took some effort, I was able to do it without soaking the entire container in water, which I've had to do in the past. If the photo had not indicated that this was a true screw top, I would not have ordered it.
It's a great size and I love the plastic covers, but the locking tabs on the shaker tops are not very sturdy, and if you're not careful they can fall off without warning. I have a photograph of my cappuccino if you want to see it- No, I'm not going to let that happen!.
Although it looks like it is a screw on lid, it is not. In order to open it, you simply have to insert two bumps into channels, which lock with a twist. This is troublesome with fine powders, as a bunch gets stuck under the edge of the lid, and then gets sprayed.
My only complaint is that when it is stale, the top part can become stuck and difficult to remove. This is especially true if it is covered in powdered sugar or.

Since I use these shakers for cinnamon and nutmeg, I don't need the larger shaker for that purpose so these are perfect for me.
As powdered sugar gets under the lid, it melts into the pan when the lid is removed for more powdered sugar. It is easy for the mesh holes to become clogged.
