When I read the reviews for these grapefruit spoons, I was hopeful as I had lost my other prized grapefruit spoons. Having grown up in Texas, I have grown up eating our famous Ruby Red grapefruits, so I know how good grapefruit spoons are. A good one will cut cleanly into each section with minimal spatter and lift it right out as a single unit. (A spoon that does that is not so sharp that if a person eats from it, it might cut their mouth). There is no real reason for these serrations other than the fact that they look nice. It was horrible having grapefruit juice spattered up and down my shirt. I had to scrape at the flesh and keep digging until it was removed. The results were only slightly better than using a spoon for iced tea. With Amazon reviews, I rarely fail to achieve a good rating, and I rarely give a bad rating, but this time my rating fell short. Since I stopped buying them for quite some time, I have suddenly become a regular buyer! Instead of eating them the correct way, I ate them like an orange because I didn't have anything to do it! I looked through all the different ones on Amazon, found some that were plastic and some that were curved like knifes. These are the ones I found. The price of these metal spoons is much lower than the price of those plastic spoons. I was skeptical, so I was leery. Some splatters are to be expected. The grapefruit spoons here are somewhat dull - they have serrated edges instead of rounded ones. The serrated edge of the spoon is too thick, so when you try to cut into grapefruit segments, you just splatter juice everywhere. If you must use a knife, you should use a butter knife. However, even though they do not serve the purposes of grapefruit spoons, they are still handy for removing seeds from grapefruits I’ve given them two stars due to the fact that they seed things like spaghetti squash or butternut squash (and this is the only reason I have given them two stars).

There are a lot of benefits from these. These are sturdy and of a good length, and the tips thin out nicely to make them easier to work with. The grapefruit I retrieved from them did not cause me any discomfort while I held them. Grapefruit spoons and knives were my parents' possessions, so I grew up using them. The grapefruit spoon I had in college was somehow always available to my college roommates, but as I now live on my own, I needed to get some of my own. I'm glad I chose these they certainly work well!.

My friend recently offered me old silverware sets that were missing a piece or two, so I bought three new sets that were matched. My new teaspoons were too wide and rounded to effectively cut a grapefruit when I wanted to eat one because I didn't realize this until I tried to eat one. These spoons were a wonderful find, and I'm glad I found them. I also like the handles since they match my new silverware for the holidays. With their serrated edges and pointed tips, these knives effortlessly slice through even the tiniest grapefruit sections.

Is it because flatware sets do not come with these anymore? This type of spoon is great for eating citrus fruits, such as oranges and grapefruit. They are the most detailed tips I've seen in anything like this (the serrations are much more prominent). As long as they remain sturdy, I can dig out all of the fruit without worry that they'll break. Cleaning the dishwasher well is a good idea After washing, there is no discoloration in the finish.

As a Texas native and having lived in Florida and California, I have not only eaten grapefruit in many places of the world but I have also used a tremendous number of spoons, most of which were very inexpensive and worked just as well as the most expensive spoon I have ever purchased.
