You can squeeze them pretty easily, yes. These gloves have just the right amount of resistance without being too flimsy or too hard to manipulate. Despite the fact that they are of a rather low quality, I do like mine very much.
It's not possible to open them like that without making them wider than they usually are. A pair of scissors tongs would be more appropriate for big ice cubes instead of something like this.

There is substantial weight to it. There are few copper or bronze serving utensils available of quality, but these do the job. It was a pretty color, functional, and a good size. I used it for our copper ice bucket at a party. However, I hand washed and dried my hands just to be on the safe side. It took two seconds to complete. This is a highly recommended product.
Any copper I see sounds wonderful to me. When I decided to purchase a new ice bucket, the tong included was stainless steel, so I went fishing and found this copper one. the perfect size, not too small nor too large.

I am in love with these ice tongs. You don't want to look pale yellow. It's hard to tell they're not You won't get that cheap look from the paint job. The ice bowl will be mixed with my stainless steel ice bucket. Having a good feel is also a good thing.
It is a high-quality product that holds up well in the dishwasher and is durable. Despite its thinness, it is able to grasp even the thinnest of food pieces with good grip.
