You wouldn't want me to do that! There's nothing special about it except that it's a rubber mat for soaking up drinks.
As far as spills go, I have not had any big ones. Whenever I use it under a pump pot, there is always a little drip. Keeping my coffee bar neat and tidy has been easy with this mat since it is easy to clean. This is the best thing ever
I'd think that brushing with hot soapy water would be adequate. Maybe even soaking for a few minutes would be acceptable. I'm not sure if it can be put in the dishwasher.

i have these and they are wonderful! I can clean them quickly, wash them, and clean up any spills or drips quickly.
