Questions & Answers
Whenever you pull out a piece of a paper towel roll of the right size, you should snap from the top down and it will come off in one piece. This can still be achieved when the inside roll is larger on the non-standard roll, because the snapping motion should still assist this. We have rolls here that work and I tested them and they do
In fact, it is the perfect fit for all the paper towels The size and number of sheets I use is standard The paper towel roll is nearly twice the size of a normal roll of paper towel Nothing seems to be a problem.
Rubber foam forms what appears to be a pad at the bottom. Almost like the craft foam kids use to cut shapes, but it seems to be a little more durable. Getting wet won't damage it because it dries quickly -- I see this frequently as my sink has a high faucet, so water spills onto the counter. The kitchen has never been an issue for me, and I am quite OCD about it. In the event that it became wet, you could dry it off with a paper Since I've had it for a few years, I consider it to be the best towel holder I've ever had. I highly recommend it because it looks nice and you can remove a paper towel easily with just one hand!
It might be the newness of the newly formed rubber center or base of the holder producing the smell. I haven't noticed it when I received the holder, and I'm not aware of smelling it coming from the rubberized black center.

When you pull a paper towel or move the holder across the counter, there is no sound coming from the padded base. Objects that are held tightly with rubber spines should remain securely in place. There is no spine to the paper towel, which is a big advantage in pulling it off with one hand. Although it is not attractive, it does its job Paper towel holders are inserted with a paper towel roll and you cannot see the spine. There is a very high quality in this product. I like how the counter looks with it. It is something I recommend to everyone.
The Umbra products I normally like did not work well with this one. There was a lot of spinning going on when the papertowel was on the rack. This paper towel dispenser did not appear to be a "one tug" design. The items have been returned to the store. for holding paper towels, it is capable of doing that, but we did not find that it operated as a "one tug" device. You may find that it does not work for you depending on your needs and what you want it to do.
In my experience, I use Sparkle paper towels and the roll spins around on the stand. I'm not sure what kind of paper towel would fit snugly on this thing, but some people seem to do well with it so it must have a different size roll. Although it does not need to be ripped off with only one hand, I like the way it looks, it seems pretty sturdy, and it is convenient for reusing paper towels.
I was expecting foam bottom on the holder, which appears to work, but looks odd instead. It's hard to tell from the photos, but there's a foam liner underneath the base. It must be to keep it from being offensive Scratches/no scratches I like non-slip, but I don't like foam lined items on a kitchen countertop that will get wet, etc. (Foam bottoms don't hold up well with wet counters over time. Gross tendencies tend to occur).
Written by hand. There are four holders in this set, making it easy to use It's an easy way to tear with ease, and best of all, it's soft foam/rubbery base protects your countertops from scratches and damage. It's no problem for me to slide the paper towel roll on with no problem, and I'm using the jumbo-size Looks nice on the counter and neither out of place nor over the top. You'll be glad you did.
Other reviewers also noted damaged bases. It's been a few days since I received my Umbra Tug Modern Stand Up Paper Towel Holder and I have to say that I am not impressed at all. I received mine with a base that looked like it had been used as a hammer before arriving at my doorstep. Other reviewers also noted damaged bases. The paper towel extension was wobbly and loose, not only did the circular base not make sense, but the circular base was anything but circular. You might want to look elsewhere for an appliance that is more durable and sturdy. Despite its attractive appearance and feel, this is truly of very low quality.
If it falls over, the whole thing will come tumbling down! There is only one good thing about it the color is gunmetal grey. Using my money in this way was a waste. Due to its nature, it was a gift for my husband, so it cannot be returned. It annoys me when I buy more than 30 days before I want to, because I wonder how their product will perform when they say it won't. I have yet to find an acceptable use for it in my family. The whole thing has been really disappointing.
This towel holder is a sight to behold. I never have to top it over, and I rip off a towel with one hand for hours on end. To remove and replace the roll on the rolls I buy, I do not even need to remove the cap on top. I think it is worth the price.
