There is a switch on this product but it doesn't turn on or off. There is only a temperature control on it. Using it requires that you plug it in and unplug it afterward.
In fact, all I did was wash it with warm soapy water, I didn't use any other chemicals and I never noticed any bad smell from it. The food always tasted good.
Only soap and warm water do the trick for me

Fortunately, I cleaned it up and it now works well, but this always seems to happen to me.
To start with, the inside coating came off as soon as I took it out of its packaging! As it heated, a terrible odor wafted through the air! This microwave is lacking a light for cooking time, and the heating light is a bit confusing for the first time user. Additionally, the food is so unevenly cooked! You shouldn't buy this if you want to save money.
Overall, I consider this my favorite purchase of all time. A few days later, I bought this whim to see if we felt the same way about eating sandwiches with this we do. The meat and cheese sandwiches are now fully accepted by my 9 year old picky son, both my husband and I use this - no butter or pans required. Simply slide the sandwich in and 2 minutes later, you will have a delicious hot sandwich at your fingertips. There is hardly any mess to clean up, and then you wipe down the table with a paper towel and you're ready for the next time. My goal if I had the funds would be to purchase one for every person I know. This is genius at its best.
Despite asking for a particular brand, I got another one, and I left it, but it won't work, everything sticks to it, and it's hard to get cheese off of it. I would not recommend it, it's a rip off.
A nice feature of this product is that it is easy to clean and use, but mostly, your sandwich is ready to eat in just a few minutes of taking it out of the sandwich maker. My son ate his sandwich right after I took his out and I had time to cool it. I waited for a while thinking it needed time to cool, but one day he ate the whole thing right after I removed his. When I tried the next day, I was pleasantly surprised that my sandwich was still nice and warm a minute after it was out of the fridge. In fact, the only reason I did not give this 5 stars was because I went online to search for a Magic Chef sandwich maker from back in the day, but wasn't able to find one. So, I chose this Compared to the magic chef version, the sandwich pockets were deeper. That is, I could make a larger sandwich and actually enjoy a larger melty sandwich without it feeling squished. However, it is possible that this is why this product cools sandwiches more quickly.
Years ago we had a huge heavy Breville that sealed and cut the slices. This does cook well but does not seal nor cut , it is just too lightweight. It is also not big enough to do a good job, but is cheap and cheerful and does the job.
It heats up quickly, cooks evenly and is Having dinner time in the kitchen is so much easier.
