I read all the one-star reviews and I thought that it was just that they didn't seal the package well enough. A proper ring should be used. As a result, I bought these "GENUINE" colored I P When we used the RED, we would use it for our spicy food (we eat a lot of Indian food and spicy food). We used the clear pot that came with the Instant Pot for veggie cooking the clear pot for various other things. (We are vegetarians) and the Blue we would use whenever we cook anything sweet. My first thought was the same as yours. Inspecting the two rings as soon as they arrived was my very first step. The mistake I made was mine. We suspected that the lack of sealing was the result of interference from the Instant Pot silicone trivet, which has long handles that protrude over the top of the 6-cup cooking pot. A lid for a quart pot has to be folded just right when it is locked in place. Now I find that it even sometimes causes problems with the seal ring attached to my Instant Pot when I use it initially. The silicone trivet (a very nice accessory) can make it difficult to turn the lid clockwise to the seal point. Remove the lid, slightly rotate the long edges of the trivet, and then turn the lid clockwise to the seal point. You can try again once you have handled the trivet. So far, I've given the rings four points and I will continue to rate them once I have a chance to test them further.
