Instead of loose leaf teas, you can use a tea bag, herbs, and fruits.
The flower is a tea pod that comes with the cup, actually two of them, and when you put them in hot water in the cup, they open up into a lovely flower. It's a lot of fun to watch, and the tea is delicious.

My daughter and husband gave it to me as a Mother's Day gift, and while I love the look and taste of the tea, I was disappointed when it came time to wash the mug. I scrubbed it by hand. The bottom of the mug has a small hole that allows a lot of water to enter the inner layer. I understand why the hole is there for the microwave and other appliances, but it's too big for water to get in and too small for water to exit. Condensation and water are swirling around the bottom of the inside layer now. I've had it out to dry for days and it's still not working. It'll probably mold, I'm afraid.
For me, this is an excellent size. Unlike some other strainers I've used in the past, the Fusion Strainer was very simple to use, and the tea stayed warm for as long as I needed it. I didn't have to worry about dropping it because of the comfortable grip. The only concern I have is that the handle appears to be a little thin to me; we'll see how it holds up over time. Another minor negative is that I'm not a fan of steeping blooming flower tea directly in the cup; I'd rather use a larger teapot with a separate infuser section for that. I didn't care for the leaves in the tea cup. If you know someone who enjoys tea, these are a great gift idea.
I've placed additional orders as gifts. It's fantastic in every way. It's a pleasure to hold the cup. My loose tea fits perfectly in the steel infuser. When the infuser is removed, it is held in place by a lid. I like to take it to my desk to steep, so the lid comes in handy when it's time to take out the infuser. The only thing that disappointed me was that the flower sank to the bottom, but the flavor was fantastic.
The tea blossoms are also sweet, though I only brew them once, so they may not be for you. The mug, on the other hand, is incredible; it never gets old watching my tea float in mid-air as I sip away.
It's perfect, so pretty and clean looking; I received the teapot set as a gift and was so pleased with it that I ordered the two large glass mugs for myself. This is fantastic!.
I gave this to two different people, and both of them raved about how much they enjoyed it. They purchased it as a gift for others because they enjoyed it so much.
The mug doesn't get too hot because of the double glass wall. It's entertaining to watch the teabloom bloom. In addition, I can use it with loose tea in the infuser or teabags.
For the money, this is the best cup, and the quality is superb.
