The chain is two feet long, but it can be shortened to about two inches by splitting it in the middle (like a necklace) and attaching a "dog tag" to it. I'm not sure how to upload photos, but believe me when I say that I've been wearing dog tags for more than two decades.

The tags are large enough for the labels to be read easily, and they look fantastic! I've had my first set for over 5 years, and when we expanded our service, I was thrilled to see that they were still available. I haven't tried using a Dry Erase Marker on them because I'm afraid it would rub off with use, but these are a million times better than vinyl lettering/labels or some of the magnetic solutions we've tried. They may appear to be a little pricey at first, but they'll last; no rusting has occurred, and the chains have all held up well and do not scratch the air pots.
In just over two weeks, two chains have already broken. It's impossible to use a dry erase marker because it's too light. It is preferable to use a sticker to decorate the tag.
