Questions & Answers

Are they thick, and do both sides have a towel?

They're thick, but not so much that they're difficult to grip, and they're lined on both sides with towel fabric. I gave them a quick wash to soften them up a little, and I'd buy them again.

What is their manufacturing location?

I never double-checked, but I figured it was China. We use them every night, and they work well regardless of where they are manufactured (we are not fans of China).

This item cost 99 cents at my neighborhood dollar store. Why is it so close to ten dollars?

I found it to be much thicker and more effective than the understuff versions. I was fed up with not having enough protection against the low-cost options. Even if it was only $5, $10 at the grocery store was not as effective, and mine stays cleaner for longer.

They've always seemed to me to be about as dense as you could want
5/5

I've seen a lot of complaints about how thin these are in the reviews, but I've always found them to be pretty dense. I'm not sure if they're from different sources or if people aren't washing them (which makes them tighten up a lot), but these wash and work great for me. Even removing a scorching hot cast iron skillet or similar item from the oven is no problem for them. They've also stood up to a lot of use, spills, and washing in hot water on a regular basis. Added a picture on 7/2020. These are still looking brand new after more than a year of daily use and regular washing. They've all been in contact with grease, fruit, batter, and a variety of other substances, and they've all emerged clean and ready to go.

When I washed it for the first time, it came apart
3/5

I decided to buy the Ritz after reading Cook's Illustrated's review and rating. That's how I get a lot of my kitchen supplies on Amazon. One of the pads' seams came apart during the first wash (see photo). stitching that is not up to par CI was correct in some of its claims - worn-in, at ease in feel - When the Ritz pair arrived, I tossed the thick cotton mitts and replaced them with these. But, if the Ritz degrades after the first wash, what difference does the price or CI rating make? This was an unsatisfactory purchase. CI got it wrong when they called this product "reliable" and declared it the category winner.

Too thin
3/5

Be careful who you buy from. These potholders are attractive, but they are a little on the thin side. When I took the casserole dish out of the oven at 325 degrees, I almost dropped it. I sewed it together and then opened it up to add some layers, only to discover that the Terry cloth is woven into a thin layer of cotton. Check out the images.

I'd like to purchase more
5/5

It shouldn't be difficult to make pot holders. However, finding exactly what we were looking for in a pot holder, which was fairly basic, proved to be difficult. For our kitchen style, we need rich plain colors that are thick, washable, and not too bulky, as those never help anyone. These were perfect, with a nice deep sage green color. We've been using these for a while and they're great for preventing burns, fit nicely in a shallow drawer, and wash well. I'd buy it again without a doubt.

I found exactly what I was looking for
5/5

For the past 40 years, I've had this particular set of pot holders. They were filthy, greasy, grimy, filthy, icky, yellowish (once white), and simply revolting. I found these in cayenne pepper red and threw away the old ones as quickly as I could open the box and confirm that these were indeed terry cloth, woven in the same manner as my others. br>br>Bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye I believe it took 40 years for new ones to arrive. These, in particular, are outstanding. I first used them when I baked a pizza at 400°F in the oven, and I can attest that they allowed me to handle the extremely hot cookie sheet without getting burned or feeling the heat. Only something made of silicone would have been able to withstand the heat for a longer period of time. However, I find these to be exactly what I was looking for because I can put them on the stovetop in about five seconds. br>br>They're quite big—about an inch bigger than the ones I had before. They did have that obnoxious tag on each one, which I removed—no harm, no foul. br>br>They delivered exactly what I expected, and I can highly recommend them, particularly because they are available in nearly any color a buyer could desire.

In a variety of colors, these pot holders are ideal
5/5

I bought these to replace my worn-out ones from about 20 years ago, and I am very pleased with them. I went to the big box stores and couldn't find these, let alone any of the colors that were available. They're something I use all the time, and I'm not sure why people think they're skinny. I'm almost 60 years old, and I believe they are a good product; however, if they were thicker, it would be difficult to remove the baking pans from the oven. I bought the square mitt as well, and I really like it. They're simple to clean and last for years of daily use. I fell in love with mine so much that I bought one for each of my daughters.

FINALLY ! I've discovered some good, old-fashioned, NON-STIFF potholders
5/5

My old pot holders are stained, worn, and shabby. For years, I've been searching for a pot holder that can be wrapped around the handle of a pot. It appears that all pot holders sold in stores are made of a new material that is so stiff that it is impossible to use them to pick up a hot plate or pot. I've been making due with folded dishtowels. The new STIFF pot holders are best used as hot pads for placing items on the table. When it comes to grasping handles, they fall flat on their faces. These pot holders are a tad thin, but thick enough to grab a hot plate or pot without folding, and foldable enough that you can double them over and still have enough to grab the hot handle if you need to hold it for longer than a moment. Also, does anyone else notice that when synthetic materials are exposed to high heat, they MELT? That isn't something the cotton will ever do. Thank you, Amazon, for making a pot holder that is both practical and attractive. I'm going to order a few more.

The stitching around the edges of the garment came out after the second wash, indicating that it will not last
3/5

The terry is unraveling and fraying as a result of the loose cloth edging. If they have to be replaced every three months, they are no longer a cost-effective option. Cook's illustrated gave them a high rating, but they weren't put through any durability tests.
