A slight lip extends from the rim of the glasses. They are of a thicker material than most regular glasses. Who wants thin glasses to serve martinis when you offer them to your guests. Who cares for the second one after the first.
Glasses of this kind cannot be put in a freezer.

This purchase has been a great experience for me. There is a little weight to it, but it is sturdy. I love how easy to hold it is and how pretty it looks. The rest of my martini glasses are in two other sets The Marquis set is the pricier of the two, and the short Martini set is the cheapest. This picture is also one of my glasses with all the shades at the same time. Tell me what you want to know. The price here doesn't seem like $18 at all. Although, I don't think men are likely to use this, just a comment. I have a BF who uses a short martini glass for making whiskey sours. I love it.
