Questions & Answers

In my non-electric kitchen, I'm making lasagna. roasting pan with a nonstick coating Do you think this knife would be suitable for cutting it without damaging the surface?

Yes. br>I work as a chef in the restaurant industry. 33 years as a culinary instructor. Plastic is used to make the knife. There will be no damage to any surface. This knife was purchased solely for the purpose of cutting lettuce. br>My only worry is that if you're cutting something very hot, the plastic might melt, especially if the pan is very hot. During your cut, the blade's edge/tip may melt as it drags across the bottom. I'm not sure how hot the knife is, so I'd cut/wedge out portions of the lasagne with a heat-resistant plastic spatula. Then, using the same spatula, scoop out the portion to be served. If you're wrapping portions of frozen or reheated lasagna, cut it while it's still cold. Make a fool of yourself. The problem with the heat has been resolved. For this task, a knife will suffice.

What is the length of the blade?

The blade measures about 6 inches in length. long. It slices through lettuce, fresh herbs, zucchini, cucumber, and even a sausage roll.

Is it possible to use this with the salad cutter bowl?

I haven't tried the salad cutter bowl yet, but I don't see why the knife wouldn't work with it. When used on non-metallic surfaces, the knife is extremely gentle. It's not stick bakeware, but it's tough enough to cut through lettuce (which is what it was designed for), and the blade appears thin enough to fit through the slots in the bowl!

If it's in my carry-on bag, will the TSA seize it?

Most likely, but why would you bring it on a plane then?

Lettuce Knife from ZYLISS = D Well, I'm the one who spent $5 on this ridiculous "lettuce knife
3/5

"br>br>I use a lot of lettuce and, of course, I get browning on the edges when using my favorite knife, but I prefer it cut rather than torn, so I live with it. br>br>I was intrigued when I heard about a "lettuce knife" that cut without browning and did some research. This had excellent reviews and a reasonable price. br>br>I used it for the first time today on a head of iceberg lettuce, and while it did eventually cut through the lettuce, it was more due to mashing than cutting. Perhaps it would work better with a different lettuce variety. br>br>I can't believe I bought into this ruse; Don't be fooled by the positive feedback. Since I'd lose money on shipping if I returned it and couldn't use it, it'd be a waste of $5.

Nonstick pans are a dream come true
5/5

When cutting brownies and other baked goods, I purchased this knife to avoid scratching my nonstick pans. That's exactly what it's good for. Because it cuts so well, it's now our go-to knife for any pie or cake, whether it's in a nonstick pan or not. I don't use a dishwasher for mine - In the sink, it's a breeze to clean. I bought one for my father because he has scratched the living daylights out of his nonstick pans cutting brownies (he's a brownie making machine), but you can't teach an old dog new tricks, so I may steal his back so I can have a spare.

Get yourself a cool lettuce knife and start eating your greens! I keep a "base" salad in the fridge to use as a base for salads for lunch throughout the week
5/5

I chopped spinach, Romaine lettuce, and purple cabbage on prep day. When my husband and I each take a bowl of salad mix, we add whatever we like to finish it - Carrots, tomatoes, dried fruit, redbud flowers, cheese, sunflower seeds, strawberries, and anything else we can think of. This green knife is excellent for cutting lettuce - Specifically for cutting lettuce to prevent it from turning brown. It works! I've bought salad bags that rot after a few days, but if I buy Romaine lettuce and cut it myself, it lasts for 5 or 6 days. Expect a rougher cut than you'd get with a sharp metal knife, but if you don't want your lettuce to turn brown, this is the way to go. That's all I've got to say on the subject - Get yourself a cool lettuce knife and start eating your greens!.

Lettuce will not turn brown if you use this method

Ok! I bought it because I despise the box in which it came. chopped- The smell of lettuce. That's a putrid odor, to be sure- After smelling the food, we're supposed to eat it. Much of it ends up in the compost. br>br>I also despise chopping lettuce for a salad that's supposed to last two days and then going to get the salad for lunch the next day and it's all brown. That's something I also don't want to eat. br>br>I didn't expect this cheap plastic knife to cut my lettuce as well as my nice chef's knife, but it does a good job cutting closer to the base of the head of romaine, up toward the leafy tops, with more tearing action than anything else. BUT! I don't mind because I rip my lettuce all the time. br>br>The best part is that I cut up a head of lettuce, let it drain most of the way, and placed it in a container with no browning or vegetable-like flavor. death- smell. It took 4 days for the lettuce to be consumed. It will save me money even if I have to buy one every year. br>br> As well as my nostrils.

To avoid rusty lettuce, use this method
5/5

For preparing and storing iceberg lettuce, this knife was ideal. In the refrigerator, I needed to keep smaller lettuce wedges. This knife cuts a head of lettuce cleanly and easily, and because it's made of plastic, it doesn't cause the lettuce to brown or "rust" where it's been cut. I put the knife in the dishwasher, and it worked perfectly. br>br>This is a fantastic, straightforward kitchen tool for which I have yet to find a suitable replacement. I strongly suggest it.

Here are the dimensions for nonstick pans and softer cooked items. I bought this knife to cut lasagna and casseroles, and it works great, though you may need to start cutting through the top surface with a stainless steel knife for some things, as I noticed some scratches on a non-stainless steel knife. a non-stick, Blue Granite, lasagna pan from cutting with a sharp steel knife. br>So now I start with a sharp, stainless steel, chef's knife, then cut-out with a sharp, stainless steel, chef's knife. With this plastic knife, cut all the way to the bottom of the pan. br>HERE ARE THE DIMENSIONS: br>I'm sure the sellers would sell a lot more of these if they didn't label it as: Size: 2. 25". br>The handle is 4 inches long and the knife is 12 inches long. The blade measures 7" in length and 5" in width. 5". At the handle, the blade is 2 1/16" wide, and it narrows to 1" just before the sharp bend near the end. The blade's top, dull side varies in thickness from 3/16" near the handle to 1/16" at the end, providing good, stable reinforcement.

Kids will love it
5/5

This was purchased for my five-year-old daughter, who wishes to cook and cut like her older sister. It takes much longer than a sharp knife to cut cantaloupe, watermelon, breads and muffins, apples, pears, and lettuce, but she still enjoys it and can't cut herself with it. It's more of a hit-or-miss situation when it comes to cutting meat. I believe she is shredding it rather than cutting it, but it was not intended for that purpose. I wish it was smaller for her, but it wasn't designed as a children's knife, and anyone who wants to cut through a whole head of lettuce wouldn't want it any smaller. Overall, it's a wise investment. A word about how to use it: A gentle sawing motion seems to work best for me. It doesn't appear to work as well if you apply too much pressure. Make no attempt to hasten the process. Allow the knife to do all of the heavy lifting. You can saw back and forth fairly quickly, but not with a great deal of force.
