Yes, it can be removed. You twist in a pin when you apply the buttercream to hold the top scraper at the desired level and height on the cake. Having just acquired mine, I found it a bit clumsy at first, but as time goes on it will become more intuitive. The best is yet to come

Love is all I can say.
The one you've chosen is great! I used the metal so I could run hot water over it and it smoothed out the buttercream, made a perfect, symmetrical cake, and saved me hours trying to eyeball levels on the A height that can be adjusted.
As we will ice larger cakes, we were wondering if it will work evenly on them. In order to achieve the best results, we are hoping to use this method on larger cakes without noticeable.
This heavy-duty scraper is designed for a broad surface. It is large enough to hold four tall layers of cake.
In addition to buttercream and ganache, I also tried it with a strawberry filling. There's no use for it and it's a waste of money.
Otherwise, the effect is not quite as good. You can also place it on a plate that is completely flat, which doesn't exist. There are 3 inches of width on the base of this device. It should wrap.
I dislike it! The middle of the cake is scraped off, but that isn't a big deal, I can fix it - I was wrong in thinking that the "scraper" would leave the cake. My wish was for a cake that was perfectly round or square. There is a chance of happening. There might be something wrong with what I'm doing.
Easier than ever to smooth.
