Stainless steel and melamine are heavier than bamboo, so if they need to be machine washable, get them made from those materials instead. While the box arrived smashed at the end, the product inside was in good condition. It's really a beautiful pair of chopsticks. On the end there are ridges that I like. A reusable chopstick is generally smooth all the way down and not as "grippy" as a single use wooden one. As a result, the ridges at their bottom solve this issue. I recommend it.
The chopsticks I ordered were for my boyfriend since we order Chinese food often and sometimes forget to grab chopsticks. These are the ones I got for the patterns since they are more masculine/androgynous. Because they aren't too heavy, they are nice and light. It can be used as a cooking utensil as well, and is easy to clean.
There was one set of wooden and one set of metal that I ordered I am sure I will get a lot of use out of them for years to come as they are well made, packaged beautifully.
