Yes, the sponge is included, and it is a decently thick one in my opinion. At our bar, we frequently use it:

I despise ordering a Margarita and having the bartender wet the glass with ice before salting it. The salt is uneven around the rim, and who wants to drink something with a lot of salt in it? This device evenly rims the glass with just the right amount of salt. Fill the reservoir halfway with lime juice, cover with a sponge, dip the glass in the lime juice, and then salt.
Arrived on time. I read some reviews on other glass rimmer's that were similar to this one in that they were a little 'herky jerky' to open. The 'top' of this one opens fairly easily. (Or at least, it does in my case. ) However, it does drag a little. The top must be lifted slightly and then slid over. You can use or discard the'sponge' in the lime juice section. Alternatively, you can take it off to clean it. In addition to the 'Salt' section, there is also a 'Sugar' section. Apart from that, it's your standard black rimmer you'd find in a bar. Except when I was working as a bartender, the rimmer's we had had a top that slid open with the touch of a finger. (I didn't give a damn about the brand. ) And, yes, it does have a shabby appearance. I wouldn't keep anything on my bar for a long time. However, for the money, it does the job. br>br>My margarita glasses with a 5 inch rim fit easily into the dipping wells. I measured, and there's a 1/2-inch gap between the edge of my glass and the inside edge of the rimmer, allowing for a 5 1/2-inch rim. It would almost touch the rimmer's edges, but it could be done.
At our Tiki Bar in Cedar Key, Florida, we make a lot of margaritas. Unless you're going to empty it and run it through the dishwasher every night, don't put Lime Juice in the sponge section to wet the rim unless you're going to empty it and run it through the dishwasher every night. br>br>Quick Tip: If you're going to empty it and run it through the dishwasher every night, don't put Lime Juice in the sponge section to wet the rim unless you're going to empty it and run it through Simply add a few drops of water to the sponge, just enough to dampen it, and it will hold the salt on the rim perfectly. br>br>Lime juice clogged the sponge, and because it was an open-air bar, ants and bugs were attracted to the lime juice.
When I bring this to parties, my friends are blown away. Cleaning is a breeze with this product. Cleaning a Tupperware container is similar to cleaning a Tupperware container. On mine, I used lime juice, chamoy, and a pinch of salt. tajin.
I haven't had to clean it, but I tried to disassemble it and couldn't (I don't use it for lime juice, only different salts and sugar), but it's otherwise solid and simple to use.
Is what it is, a cheaply made item from Malaysia that was broken when I received it but could still be used.
The top was a little scuffed up, but it was still in its original box. I kept the item because I needed it for an event right away.
It's extremely difficult to open and close, and it's so large that you'd be better off using a plate.
