The weight and sharpness of this knife are much greater than I expected, so you can almost just rely on its weight alone. This seems to be a very solid piece. In the near future, I don't see it failing. The book is fantastic! I was concerned that the quality would be subpar at such a low price, but it's awesome. A professional chef may find some things that they don't like, but for the average person at home cooking? This is the best bulldozer you will ever see.
The blade is too thick and heavy to be made into a shaper (this thing is so heavy and sharp). Chopping big or hard bones is a breeze with this tool (such as pork I only have one complaint the handle is a little too big for my hand) and hard to hold (even though I have quite large hands It is highly recommended for chefs and cooks with large hands who are not weak.
Having said that, it can be further sharpened if you want, but it works great It is VERY IMPORTANT that you take care with this tool. It can and will cause grave injury if not used appropriately. This incident has not resulted in any injuries.
