An inch is the thickness of the paper.

Two of these have been purchased, and I will buy a third. Their magnets are powerful, and any of our larger knives, such as a cleaver, fits perfectly in them. The screws provided were too long for the end I was mounting them to (end of a cabinet). I had to buy my own screws to mount them.
