There was a lot of rust on the pan. There was no way I could use Whether there was anything i could have done to prevent it from rusting is unknown to me. So far, excellent product. Down to 3 stars*. It has only been used once so far and it worked pretty well. Although I did have to clean the pan thoroughly, I did not have to scrub it. A friend of mine uses this pan to boil maple sap into syrup, which I realize is a very odd use for it You can use labels to identify. My husband and I used it all season last year and we loved it. The kettle is awesomely large and well made (but not incredibly heavy) and is the perfect size to use over a propane stove to boil syrup. One of the best things about it is that it is made out of stainless steel (not aluminum) so you can boil sap with it. I advise you not to My expensive seafood literally melted in the pan while I was cooking it on low heat to medium heat. Please do not purchase this product, if you don't want to ruin a nice meal.
