This is the first time I've ordered these, and they've been fantastic so far! The material is extremely durable, and they can hold a significant amount of weight. I'd like to point out that some customers expressed dissatisfaction with the bags' inability to close properly in their reviews. When I'm finished filling, I always tie a small knot. You wouldn't expect your shoes to stay cinched without a tie, so why should a thin cotton string? Don't let a lack of common sense influence your decision. I'll keep buying these bags because they've met my needs perfectly and are such a good deal!.
These aren't the kind of teabags you'd expect to find in a tea bag. Teabags that are "normal" absorb water, sink in the cup or pot, are porous, and have a papery feel to them. These aren't water-absorbent; They do not sunk to the bottom of the pot. They have a slick, plastic-like feel to them. In a small pot of hot water, I placed one filled with tea. It sat atop the water's surface. It continued to float after being repeatedly pushed underwater. It was still floating after eight hours. It makes drinkable liquid tea, so it's porous, but the bag remained slick after 8 hours. When I emptied the tea leaves from the bag, it was still as strong as it had been before. I was able to re-use it after refilling it with tea. I could have done it a third time after the second, and who knows how many times it would have done it. In the end, it makes tea, but it's not like a regular teabag, which absorbs water, sinks to the bottom, and would most likely fall apart if you tried to empty and refill it. It gets two stars because it works, but it's clear that it's not a "natural" fiber like paper or cotton.
I prefer to make my own blends and have been steeping in my single-use steeping baskets. However, when I have a large group and want to make a large batch, or when my friends don't like tiny pieces of tea leaves at the bottom of their cups (I love my friends, but I have to laugh), these are ideal because they are simple to fill and come with a cute little narrow, sturdy measuring scoop that fits perfectly into the bags. Most of my teas will fit in one tablespoon. If you're a frugal person who doesn't mind rinsing and keeping track of what tea you used in the bags, you might be able to get several uses out of them if you're careful with how you use them. These bags have made an impression on me. They're simple to fill and close, and they have a good steepness to them. The small scoop that came with them is something I really enjoy. This is a nice little extra.
It's most likely because I didn't read the fine print. These are bags made of plastic. I put one over my stove to see if it would melt into a hard plastic ball, and it did. When boiling water is poured on them, I don't think these are a healthy choice because I imagine plastic particles could leech into the tea. It's not my cup of tea, to be honest.
It's a great value and can be used in a variety of ways. I use these not only for tea, but also for storing spices for soup stock. The disposable bags did not break or disperse after stewing a large pot of pho (Vietnamese beef noodle soup) for over 4 hours. You also won't be able to detect any tea bag remnants, as you might with other tea bags or even metal/silicone tea strainers.
I've tried a lot of different tea bags. These are the best; the plastic bag in which they were packaged was thick and had a zip lock. There's also a nice spoon included. The size is ideal for a single large cup of tea. Because the material allows water to enter more quickly, the steeping time is reduced compared to other bags. The string and the material are both very durable. There were no tears or breaks in the material. As promised, delivery was made on time.
It also works well with a little scoop included. I've used it for tea and in the crockpot for soups and ciders that contain whole spices that will need to be removed. There has been no tearing of bags or escaping of leaves or spices. I do tie a knot around the top of the bag after pulling the drawstrings closed, especially when putting everything in the slow cooker.
