No idea, we bought the green one that was shiny, but the black one probably has the same effect because of its glazed coating.
I believe the hole extends through the whole thing.

Selected User Reviews For BambooMN Brand - Matcha Tea Whisk Holder - Black
Could it be the wooden container, the infuser, or the Matcha Whisk Rest? Honestly, I think the problem needs to be addressed by the seller It was almost impossible for me to give this a try since the reviews for the containers and infusers were so bad, but I am here to tell you that the BambooMN Brand - infusers - are incredible. Resting on Matcha Whisk I have received the item described as Mint Green. It is here that you can find the solutions to your needs if you have a whisk and don't know where to put it when not whisking.
Additionally, the bottom is highly porous, so your whisk will have an easy time airing out. As long as it does what it's supposed to, it's fine.
The stand fulfills the purpose I ordered it for - my sister bought me a matcha set for my birthday and it didn't come with a stand. So I ordered this one so I could keep my whisk, and it does. It looks sleek and simple, so it is a perfect fit for the decor in my kitchen. Next to my matcha bowl, it sits open on my open shelf. My family and I use it day after.
Adding it to their other tools for preparing green tea is a great idea. With this whisk stand, I can simply cradle my bamboo whisk (purchased elsewhere on the web) and easily align the outer and inner edges of the bristles so that every batch of tea is thoroughly mixed. In addition to the fact that it was produced here in the USA, I am thrilled to have purchase it from them. The only worry I have is that other manufacturers abroad may not be as reliable. The fact that one is made here in the USA is simply nice.
I broke the one I had at home so I decided to buy another one to replace it. The product works great. It came packed in perfect condition (from USA to rep. Dominican Republic), my whiskey fits perfectly and is made from a harder material than the one I had previously. The purchase I made was satisfactory to me. I give it a 10 out of 10.
". This holder fits my whisk perfectly, lets it dry, and keeps the shape of the whisk. One star was deducted for its slightly brown cast, so it was not as black as I Most likely, this is because the brown slip was painted over before the glaze was applied. When you turn over the foot, which was left unglazed, the internal color can be seen, but it can only be seen if the rest of the piece has been turned have given a damn about it, except for the fact that I wanted the color to match the rest of my black decor. I'm not sure that it says anywhere that it was manufactured in China, but it's just a matter of taste and not really a fault.
The whisk rest in this case was not made in Japan, which was my specific search criteria. As a result, I was a little concerned it would be China. However, the description was a little misleading so I took the risk. It's nothing special, but does it matter where something is made, and is China the only place that anything can be made in? It should be stated more explicitly where this is made in the description.
What a beautiful way to hold a whisk. is a perfect fit for the chasen. I like the color very much.
