My smoker was fitted with a thermometer hole, and this plug helped plug it up nicely. The hole in my smoker used to accommodate two thermometers. I only required one now, so I got this plug kit, and it worked perfectly for the 13/16 inch hole my thermometer used to be in. This is the method used by true thermometers. The burners on my smoker are 1/4 inch thick steel and one inch in diameter The rubber o-ring on this plug fits perfectly. The smoke box never gets hotter than 325 degrees so the rubber o-ring is sufficient There are two plugs and four rubber o-rings in the kit that make sure the ring will survive A set of rings and two nylon o-rings It is a good idea to have spare parts, such as rings.
