I just added a couple of photos to my review from February 26th, 2016 that show the cork in some detail. Although it appears to be a continuation of the corn husks, the area above the metal band is also cork.
The tester is approximately 6" tall. The broom tester was given to a friend, who thought it was a thoughtful present. I used to have a longer broom, but this one is just as good.
Mine didn't come with a magnet. This item did not perform as it was supposed to.

They're long-lasting and easy to operate. I'm not going to bake with anything else.
For my kitchen, it's just the right size. It's so simple to store and get to. The usual mad dash for something to check doneness is eliminated.
This is one of my wife's favorites, and it's one of my favorites as well. Much better than steel testers and lasts a lot longer than a toothpick. And cute.
This is the second one that I've purchased. The first was a present for me, and the second was a present for someone else. It's a lot better than using toothpicks.
I mistook it for a full brush, but it only covers the brush's outer edges; the middle is empty. It's also rather short, but that doesn't stop me from using it. br>I'm sorry, but I'm not going to buy anything else.
Thirty years ago, I received one of these. This was a gift for our daughter, so I bought it for her. law. They perform admirably. After a few years, I figured out that I didn't have to remove the entire straw. If you do, the metal band will eventually fail to hold them together, and you will have to use a rubber band; it is preferable to break off a straw for testing. Because this isn't a particularly long cake tester, breaking off a piece will give you approximately. four inches in length It's not going to work for something like a Bundt cake because it's too deep. But it's the best for regular cakes and muffins.
