Whatever the weight, I'd recommend holding it from the bottom. It can accommodate a two-tiered cake that is approximately 11-inches in diameter. 12" tall with a well for the topper. For added support, I use tape on the bottom and sides.
It can hold about 75 pounds or a four-tiered cake; however, DO NOT use the handles because they will break; instead, lift from the bottom.

This box is ideal, and it is extremely durable. It worked great for my large cake; it didn't close with the cake topper, but I simply removed it and placed it in another box; however, it will work well for smaller tiered cakes.
The 12in boxes haven't been a problem for me. I'm waiting for them to restock at the moment. My two-tier and three-tier cakes are made with the. Although the three tiers are too tall for the box, I usually just wrap the top in cello wrap to close it completely. Because this is a taped together box (yes, I tape the box together after assembling), I always tell my clients to hold from the base rather than the handles. I also taped off the side handle areas to keep them from using them.
I like how simple it is to put together (no instructions were required) and how sturdy it is. This box was a lucky find! It's ideal for transporting cakes with intricate decorations safely. Even the tallest layer cakes can be accommodated, and the two handle options allow for a variety of handling options. Amazon's 12" white square drums are ideal for the box's base. Decorate a smaller round or square board with a cake and then hot-fry it. The smaller base (with cake) should be glued to the 12" square. It will fit snugly in place and make an excellent presentation.
We usually deliver our tiered cakes, but if it's for a birthday, shower, or anniversary, we occasionally have people pick it up. I needed a sturdy box to keep the cakes safe from the elements. When they're all put together, they look exactly like a Buil- bear box. They're just the right size and thickness. Definitely sturdy, but I do reinforce with duct tape (because tiered cakes are heavy!). And I would never recommend carrying a cake through it by the top handle! The assembly was simple, but I could see how it could be confusing for some because there are no instructions. Overall, a fantastic cake box.
Tall cake carriers are extremely difficult to come by! I've bought these a few times because they're so much nicer and easier to use for transporting tall cakes than making your own box. My only wish is that they were a little less expensive.
