The system has 2 pockets in which a rod can be inserted. A top pocket allows the valance to hang flat and straight down whereas a second pocket creates a sort of gathering at the top of the valance. As for the choice of shower rod, you may use any standard one. By the way, this is a lovely valance.
The height of these valances are longer than the ones that come with standard sliding doors, and I ordered two for my 6 foot sliding door and one for my 36 inch window. They are nice and full. I really like the quality and the fact that
I have no idea, maybe an area where the rod would go. This is a cheaply made item, so do not waste your money.
