Thus, my wife and I decided to try finding some blackout curtain liners to ensure that we did not have to get rid of the old curtains. You just can't go wrong with these liners! The material used for it is soft and lightweight, yet thick enough to block out the light effectively. They are the ones I chose because I wanted the option of hooking them right up to the curtain rod instead of pining them to the existing curtains (ours aren't thick or strong enough to hold that type of weight). It's true that the rings included with this liner aren't titanium, but they seem to get the job done nonetheless. The curtains aren't beautiful either, but since they're hung behind the existing curtains, you don't even really see them. For now, they are amazing! As a day sleeper with a south facing bedroom (meaning I have a lot of sunlight coming into the room all day), I always need a REAL blackout curtains liner to make my bedroom dark during the day. I have tried many on the market but have never been satisfied. Other liners have hooks that hurt my curtains to install and have a bad smell and a very plastic feel. Some liners have chemical coatings which do reduce light and noise, but their chemical scent is very unpleasant. The blackout liners I found are so innovative that I'm thrilled I found them now. I have purchased this batch for the second time in some time. have a nylon-like feel to them. There is definitely little light coming through them, since they are thick. Arizona is hot and sunny so I was looking for something to block the sun. The curtains don't need to be replaced anymore, so I am glad. All you have to do is add them to your existing rod This is how it works. It is accurate to use the measurements given. However, there was one negative the hoops you have to jump through are a bit annoying. It's a very stiff pair of shoes. I literally broke one box when I attempted to open it. Curtains are 84 inches wide and I found that liners that are 84 inches wide just got in my 63" is perfectly sized for our room, and I have noticed that it is warmer in winter (by a degree or two). The difference between nights you go to bed in Iowa during winter isn't noticeable at first, but you do notice it when you wake up. Due to its lack of summer application here in Canada, I cannot say how this product keeps the heat out. I've only had it for a few weeks, and it's still winter.
There's nothing else I want in a curtain liner besides these. This is what I got for my family room, and it works great. Their color is light gray, they are extremely soft, and their odor is completely nonexistent. Since they do have some weight to them, I was able to hang just one per window. don't have heavy duty curtain rods and didn't want to replace them. I wouldn't say they are too heavy, just that I do not have heavy duty curtain rods. Installing these liners is also easy without removing your existing curtains or rods. Simply clip in place behind your existing curtain panels when you insert the rings into the top tabs of the liners.
In the end, I rode them with clips attached to my existing curtains and hung them from the tabs at the bottom. As my windows are only 82" tall, these worked perfectly in terms of length. I may permanently sew them to my curtains, but I like the option of removing the liners during the summer. My goal was to better insulate my windows during the winters in the mountains and it seems they are doing the job. Neither the shirts nor the towels have any odors, and they are machine washable. I lined my curtains with these as they are light gray and they make my curtains look more luxurious. I am happy with the way they turned out.
