It is, in fact, 8 x 10. It was not difficult for me to trim it to fit under my 8 x 10 rug.
On one side, there's a very fine mesh, which I assume holds everything together. Next to my rug, I placed this side. I placed the softer side on the floor because I have hardwood floors.
Yes, your vinyl flooring will be safe.
The pad has nothing to do with rug burn; it's the fiber of your rug and how hard you rub against it that causes it. It provides some padding, but if your rug has a bristled texture, the padding will not protect your skin from abrasion.

This is exactly what I needed. Underneath the rug, the felt protects the hardwood floors while also providing cushion. Because it is prone to slipping on floors, it should only be used for large area rugs that will be supported by furniture. If not, go for the one with the grip. I purchased an 8X11, which was cut to my specifications. The previous complaints about the fabric not being perfectly 8X11 are ridiculous, as this is a woven/meshed fabric that naturally stretches. A little extra goes a long way and allows you to tailor it to your rug's specifications (good scissors are recommended!). Previous remarks about crud in the woven felt are, in my opinion, nitpicking. They're there because it's recycled fabric, but they're minor and have no bearing on the product's performance; some people just like to complain, I guess, because this was exactly what I expected, if not better.
I was dubious about the effectiveness of this pad. We have hardwood floors that are laid over concrete, and we've been living without a pad under our living room area rug for the past year. I was desperate to get my hands on the half-priced item. I wanted an 8x10 pad but didn't want to pay nearly $200 for one, so I bought this 1/4 inch pad for around $50. It feels so good to step onto my rug now. The rug's "Cush" has improved noticeably, and I'm confident that it will now last longer. Because I have a sofa and other furniture to keep it from slipping, I can't comment on the slickness. I didn't need to trim because the fit was perfect. I also realize that the 1/2 inch pad would have likely caused a trip hazard, so this one is perfect.
You read reviews and are unsure what to believe; some are positive, while others are negative. The quality of this pad is outstanding. Very soft, and slightly thicker than the stated 1/4 inch. However, I'm sure it will compress over time as carpet and furniture are placed on top of it. I need to remove about 5 inches of material from two sides. I started by laying my carpet on top of it, aligning one of the ends and one side. I attempted to use scissors first, but they were ineffective. I got out my good sewing shears and gave it a shot, but it didn't work. Finally, I took out my box cutter and folded back the carpet to create a straight edge before scoring the pad. Because the pad is thick, it did not go all the way through to the floor, but if you press too hard, it will. The scissors glided right through it once it was scored.
There are alternatives that are better. I chose to be frugal because rugs are already so expensive, and this one has excellent reviews (and was the cheapest I could find!). ) I was constantly tripping over my rug, so I bought a rug pad. There were a number of things that I disliked: 1. Both sides are aware of it. This means that even if you have wood floors, it will still slide around. I was sure I read somewhere that it prevents slipping, and I assumed it had both non-slip and felt 2. "Easy to cut with scissors" is a no-no. I had two different kinds of scissors, but neither of them worked. I became frustrated and had to resort to using an exacto knife, which was still difficult and time-consuming. Later, I discovered that "fabric scissors" are the best, and I don't know about you, but that's not something I have on hand. 3) I have a coffee table with castors that bunches up when I move it, which is another issue I was hoping this would solve. So it softens it slightly, and that's all there is to it. Returning it would be far too inconvenient, and I had already cut it, so I'm disappointed that I spent $50 on it. That money could have gone toward something that actually met my requirements.
It's simply luscious, and it's made a huge difference in how my oriental looks and feels. When a rug is properly padded, it looks better, feels better, and lasts longer. Because I work in the construction industry, I am well aware of this. This pad is thick and soft, but still provides adequate support between the rug and the floor, and it does not slide around. It was also very simple to cut. Because it needed to be trimmed both in length and width, I used the trimmed sections to make another small rug by taping the individual sections together with duct tape (wide packing tape makes a crinkle sound when you walk over it, so that's not ideal). If you do the same, make sure the tape side is facing up to avoid scratching your floor. This was an excellent purchase, and I intend to make additional purchases in the future - I've been ecstatic with the results. The rug, by the way, was delivered in a box, rolled up.
I needed two felt pads for a pair of Persian rugs I bought about 25 years ago. This was a fantastic pad. The proportions were accurate, and the shape appeared to be a rectangle. They're comfortable under the rugs, and I couldn't ask for anything more. We added some PVC anti-slip to the felt because it slides on laminate. br>br> The slippage was stopped by slipping rug guards in a couple of corners that were exposed to foot traffic. br>br>I also purchased a smaller rug pad and cut it into pieces to use under some flat-sitting bookcases - I cut pieces of that size for each bookcase because they were all 18" x 39. " This not only provided additional floor protection, but it also allowed me to push the bookcases onto the laminate to get it out of the way (part of juggling installing flooring in half a room at a time). When I pulled out one 6 foot tall bookcase today to reconnect the wireless router, switch, cable modem, and WD Cloud drive that I had sitting on top of a bookcase, it paid off handsomely. It was much easier than it would have been on laminate without the felt if they had been on a carpet.
I bought this rug pad because our jute rug was scuffing our newly finished wood floors, and so far I'm very pleased with it. It's very soft to the touch, so I'm sure it'll keep the floors safe. Bonus - It provides a lot of cushion and has even helped to keep the dust that jute rugs are known for. It was a little bigger than the 8x10 size we bought, but trimming it with a boxcutter took about five minutes (scissors, by the way, don't work very well).
