I'm worried about trying to write on the vinyl rather than the wood (thinking the wood is easier) because it doesn't cover the entire board. ?

Only the ticking marks remain after applying the strip to the board and pulling off the backing paper. There would be no clear vinyl between each mark, just the board's wood surface.

Is it possible to use this technique on a non-wood surface? I'm debating whether to use canvas or vinyl - Is it possible to roll it up?

Hello Mini7, We attempted to apply vinyl to canvas but were unsuccessful. It must be applied to a clean, smooth surface that is free of particles.

Love it
5/5

Great product; just follow the instructions to the letter and you'll have a ruler that will track your child's (in my case, my grandchild's) growth. I bought a board, stained it, let it dry for a week, then read the instructions several times before starting to apply the decal. The most important part is to read the directions and make your marks with the pencil ahead of time, starting with the longest tick mark on your 4 inch mark and working your way down. When you've completed the decal, cut it out and fill in the gaps at the bottom with the remaining tick marks. After they send me my free name decal (which is my favorite part of ordering from this company), I'll take a picture and post it. Great-looking decal that sticks well and was a simple project for anyone to complete.

That was a breeze! This is a simple and quick craft that would make a wonderful gift
5/5

Simply purchase a 1x8 board (Select Grade Pine with few or no knots costs about $24 at Lowes and is superior to what I can find at Home Depot). If you need to get an 8-foot board, cut it down to 6 feet (Lowes can do this for you). ) Lightly sand the edges with steel wool to reduce the sharpness. After a thorough cleaning, you'll be ready to apply this decal according to the detailed instructions included. We've done it three times now and are still blown away by the results. We apply a coat of varnish, then lightly sand with steel wool before applying the final coat. It looks fantastic. Remember to record your birth height as well as that of your parents!.

I've always wanted a growth chart like this! My father used to measure us on a bookshelf that eventually became too short for all of us around Middle School, so I wanted a taller chart
5/5

However, I also desired one that I could take with us if we decided to relocate. All of the other prerequisites This product was super easy to use and I saw it attached to a wall as a decal, so when I saw it and the price, I thought it looked perfect. The instructions that came with it were fantastic and very easy to understand. I only changed the way I measured for where the marks went by a few millimeters. I had a dash stick once or twice when separating the paper from the decals to attach them to the board, but if you're careful, you can press them back together and it'll stick to the transfer paper instead. Most pre- I had some leftover paint from painting our dining room, the board was $5, and we had sandpaper from another project, so this project cost us less than $20! To summarize, it's very simple to use and apply, it's inexpensive, and the quality is excellent. LOVE. IT.

It appeals to me
5/5

I've been eyeing these at craft fairs and shops for a while now, but the price tag has always surprised me. I was able to make my own for a fraction of the price that I've seen them go for on the market. I can finally stop measuring my boys' heights on the wall. br>br>Instructions were straightforward and simple to understand. I applied the vinyl a week after staining to ensure that it was completely dry, and it stuck perfectly. Before hanging it up, I'm going to use a polyurethane to protect the transfers and stain.

Simple to work with
5/5

I'm glad I went with decals instead of painting by hand. It was very simple to adhere to my 1x8 boards that I had painted a few days before after carefully reading the directions. The only difficult part was deciding how high to place the initial mark. Because I was making two measuring boards, one for myself and one to give away, I made one 8 inches from the floor (as the directions suggested) and the other 6 inches. I prefer the look of the 6 inch, so that'll be the one I keep! I took 45 minutes to figure out what I was doing when applying the vinyl decals to the first board. It took me less than 10 minutes to complete the second board.

Excellent product with an easy-to-follow instruction manual! This product is exactly as described, and I am very happy with it
5/5

The instructions were straightforward and simple to follow. It took me very little time to apply, and the process was very straightforward. I liked how the measuring lines came in one-foot sections, which made them a lot easier to work with. The only drawback was that the decal did not always fully peel away from the transfer paper (as shown in the photo), but this was minor. The extra paper was easily removed by my fingernails. I went with a raw cedar board and am very pleased with the results - It resembles a ruler or a yardstick in appearance. I'm so excited to hang this up and start keeping track of my kids' measurements!.

Mine goes all the way down to the FLOOR! CUTE, QUICK, AND EASY Home Depot was the source of my board
5/5

I painted a board for my daughter's first birthday that was 6' tall and 12" wide (they have them already cut in that size for $15). I wanted mine to measure from the ground up so that I wouldn't have to hang it every time we moved, so I measured from the bottom of the board up. I left the numbers off because I like how it looks without them. The foot markers are longer tick marks, so you can tell where they are. I didn't need the numbers because I wasn't making a "ruler," only the tick marks. The directions are very clear and simple to follow. Simply peel the clear part of the white paper away from the white paper and place it, sticky side down, on the board; then rub something against the tick marks to make them stick to the board; then peel the clear paper away, and the tick marks will be stuck to your board. Over the years, I intend to seal the board and mark the height with a paint pen! Thank you a lot!.

This is a fantastic DIY ruse
5/5

I had this idea for a DIY project that would allow me to make a growth chart for my children. After a series of misfortunes in the field of free-lance writing, I found these decals that were simple enough for a DIY challenged individual like myself to apply after hand drawing and then stenciling. The chart has been hanging in our upstairs hallway for over a year, and the stickers have remained untouched. This was an excellent buy!.
