Yes. We used it on a door with plush carpet on one side and hardwood on the other. Without any issues, it works perfectly.
That is highly dependent on the odor and how well the other parts of the door are sealed. This only prevents air and smells from entering from the bottom of the door; however, smells can still enter from the top and sides.
Cutting it is simple. I'd save the pieces you cut off in case you need to use it under a larger door in the future. I have one that I've taken with me to a few different places, and reattaching the foam piece is simple. You can tape it if you want, but you don't have to; simply re-sleeve it.
I'm not sure where you got number one. 9”. The size is one. 6" (approximately 1 1/2" in diameter of sponge insert) by 34" (length for door width). It's the perfect fit for my door.

What a calamity. I ended up removing the foam from the section that goes outside and taping the other side up to allow the door to close. I'm not sure it's worth $14, but it'll do for now. This thing is fantastic, and it's simple to adjust to your door size and put together in a matter of minutes. The best part is that it actually reduces noise. I live in a condo, and my son recently moved in with us for a few months. We simply opened doors and moved around in the mornings to wake him up. We haven't woken him up since we installed the noise blocker. For a great price, this is a fantastic product.
Since you've asked, I'll give you my honest opinion. I was hoping for something a little more solid and genuine. The materials that were used were extremely low-cost. The material that is used to block the noise and keep the cold out is very rough. It's made of Styrofoam. Come on. We recently purchased a new home with tile flooring throughout. Between the tile floors and the interior doors, there's about a one-inch gap. When the doors are closed, the height is 5". Almost all noises are reflected off the floors and can be heard throughout the house. I came across these twin draft/noise stoppers and decided to try them in my son's room because he plays the drums and the sound was particularly loud due to the tile floors. They're easy to cut to length, install, and do a good job of reducing noise. However, most bedroom doors aren't very thick or dense, so don't expect them to make your rooms soundproof right away. After having the first one installed for two days, I went out and bought three more to put on all of the bedroom doors in the house. They aren't the most appealing things to look at, but because we have gray tile floors, they don't stand out as much as they might if we had different color options.
