There is about 1/16th inch between them. I really like how well it is made and how durable it is. There was a problem with it it made the door so tight that it wouldn't shut without a hard push. Then it was so tight, it There was too much thickness on the top.

The door can't be closed because the seal is too thick

Although the item is as described, the top piece that sits on top of the door is so thick that you have to use your body weight to hold it closed in order As a result, the door does not seal Because of this I chose not to use it, which was not helpful in any way.

It adjusts easily for wreath size and shape. Our door is taller than the standard wreath hanger, so I had to buy a taller wreath hanger. I like how easy it is to use and adjust, and how smoothly the door closes.
