Yes, it is quite sturdy, and I believe it will hold your belongings. The lip depth of the display stand is about 1", and my 8" decorative plate weighs more than 1 pound.
At the base, there is a width of 1. 25" . In mine, I have a 10" 10 oz plate that is stable.

Sturdy and stable, with very little visible wear. The two plates in my photo are a heavy, artisan-made plate that is larger than a dinner plate, and a large melamine platter that looks like ceramic. This tiny holder served its purpose admirably.
These are what I bought to hold glass art, and they're great. They're thick and sturdy enough to hold even the heaviest of plaques.
It's perfect and extremely durable. There is no need to be concerned about tripping. breaking! This purchase has made me very happy.

This year, I decided to be more creative and make the moms in my life a cute tile with the names of all their children/grandchildren on it. I started looking for something to put in front of them because I didn't have anything to put in front of them. These 3" holders were custom-made for my project because they were the perfect size. The tiles were oddly shaped, being wider than they were tall, but they were held in place by this stand with no risk of falling off. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.
A pack of two comes with two zip ties to keep them together. I tried everything I could to get the zip ties off without scratching the stands' black finish, but it was impossible. In a couple of places on both stands, the black coating has been scratched away, revealing bright silver. Nothing that a little paint or sharpie can't fix, but it's still inconvenient to have them busted right out of the box. br>br>UPDATE: br>br> I've raised the rating from two to four stars because the company went above and beyond to address my concerns, and they've since changed their packaging to avoid the problem.
The bottom portion was not thick enough for the photo I was using, but it was a great price. I believe that if the artifact is too heavy, it will not hold and will flip backward, making it ideal for plates or thinly framed photos.
I was prepared to wrestle with zip ties after reading the other reviews before purchasing it - My set, however, was not zip tied together, so the company must have seen them! They're ideal for showcasing my small decorative signs. It was in excellent condition, required only minor unwrapping, and was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much!.
