Mine was delivered from Germany!
Yes, a pen is provided for writing on the back of the plate.
The pen, I'm not sure about. Inquire with the manufacturer or the vendor. Our plate is a few decades old and didn't come with a pen for writing on it.
The following is written on the back of the plate: California, 1979, The Original Red Plate I don't have any more information.

We broke the old one, and the words "Made in Germany" were written on the back of the broken one. The back of the plate we just received has no such wording, and there are no images available for the back of the plate. Take a look at "redplatestore. com" for yourself. "Manufacture of the You Are Special Today red plate was moved to China around 2010," according to Waechtersbach's "Brief History of Waechtersbach. " "This is significant because the new one is clearly inferior to those made in Germany, and there have previously been concerns about lead in the glazing of Chinese products. I'm not pleased with the purchase because I expected a replacement for the one we broke, not a low-cost Chinese knockoff.
I initially mistook it for a broken item, but it turned out to be the included pen shaking around in the box. I'll be buying more for our daughters, who have seen us use this plate on special occasions throughout their childhood. We did keep a log in a blank book instead of writing on the back of the plate. This is something I'll get for future wedding gifts as well.
We bought one for each of our adult children (along with a copy of the events/dates on the box lid) and just placed an order for a friend!.
Any family will appreciate this thoughtful gift. It can be displayed and taken down on special occasions. Birthdays, graduations, and other occasions for celebration. This is not something you should use every day. Those who are unique. The plate will be eagerly anticipated by the children. (And the parents who are still children at heart) It's been a tradition at our house for 33 years, as well as at my wife's house when she was a child.
This plate is absolutely gorgeous. Many years ago, one was given to us as a wedding gift. It's one of my favorite shower gifts to give, and it's best when it's used to show someone how special they are.
We'd like a replacement for the plate because it has flaws under the glaze. It was a present for my wife, and we only discovered the flaws after she unwrapped it.
We like it a lot.
If done correctly, this tradition can be a lot of fun. Ours has seen a lot of action in my family. It's a hit with the kids!.
