It works great inside my 16x16 sofa throw pillow covers, and I am so happy with these 18x18 down inserts. It was not the best packaging for shipping, but I won't hold that against the product. Since certain reviews indicated there was an odor concern upon opening the plastic bag containing the inserts, I examined them immediately. They did not have any odor. As for the cotton coverings, they were nicer than I expected, I detected no odor. The inserts were put in the dryer on air fluff setting with two rubber softener balls for two minutes following the instructions on the label. I took them out after they had gotten quite fluffy after I took them out. I still have no smell, which is fantastic. Tossing them into my leather pillow covers, which were filled out well, was the best option for me. Over time, there is bound to be some settling, but for now, I guess I'll just put them back in the dryer to fluff them back up.
