Questions & Answers

What are the proportions of the weight? Does everything pool at the bottom of the blanket when you pick it up? Is it a quilted blanket?

This blanket is absolutely gorgeous. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it allowed me to sleep. It's quilted in squares, so they slide around a little, but only within their own blocks.

Is it glass, silica, or some other material that the beads are made of?

The product is made of poly pellets, despite the fact that the website description says glass beads.

Is it possible to wash this?

Yes, gentle cycle in cold water. I recommend taking it to a laundromat because the weight could cause a regular machine to dance around unbalanced. br>Leave to dry on a flat surface.

Which of the covers qualifies for a discount? My cart does not show a discount for the one Amazon recommends.?

It appears to be limited to a few colors. Choose from a variety of colors to find out how much they cost.

I was able to sleep for the first time in a very long time
5/5

I suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and have been having nightmares that keep me awake at night. I frequently wake up sore and on the verge of crying due to my exhaustion. I won't lie, the blanket didn't make me feel better; I'm still sore from being tense all night, but for the first time in years, I awoke feeling rested. I was on the verge of crying with joy. I feel as if I've regained control of another aspect of my life. Thank you for your consideration.

Blanket with a weighted center - Over time, I grew to appreciate it more
5/5

UPDATE 6- 16 - 19br>I'm bumping up my rating to 5 stars because I've come to appreciate and love this blanket over time. I also tried a different weighted blanket and discovered that I preferred this one. The cotton cover is much better than the other one I tried. (I used the original as well as the updated version sent by the manufacturer. ) At this point, I'd give it a five-star rating; I still think it's a little pricey for what it is, but it's better quality than others I've tried at $50. This one is the best of the ones I've tried, and I'm thinking about getting one in a slightly larger size (for sleeping), as well as a smaller one to use as a throw in the living room. I also like that it comes in a variety of lighter, more vibrant colors. So many of them are dark grey, which clashes with none of our bedding. I, too, am not a fan of the covers and have found that using these weighted blankets without them works best. That's where the use of a high-quality cotton fabric comes in handy. The cotton on the other one I tried was so thin that it was scratchy, and I could feel the glass beads poking me, negating the weighted blanket's benefits. I'm currently very pleased with this weighted blanket and the manufacturer's response to my concerns about odor and other issues. This is a blanket that I would strongly recommend. br>br>UPDATE # 5 19br>After reading my comments, the blanket's manufacturer contacted me and informed me that they had improved the product and would send me a new one. The pockets are, indeed, smaller in this one. They also got rid of the noxious odor, leaving only a fresh scent. It now comes in a nice zippered case, similar to what you'd find in a retail store with a comforter. Unfortunately, the pockets are still unevenly filled, with some having no contents and others having a lot of them. The fiberfill inside is still not mentioned on the tag, and handwashing is still recommended. However, I believe that this is primarily to protect my washing machine in the event that a seam opens up. Overall, the quality has improved, with the most notable improvement being the elimination of that foul odor! ORIGINAL REVIEWbr>I wanted to see if a weighted blanket could help me with my anxiety disorder. I've been reading about them and debating whether or not to get one because they're so expensive; in the end, I decided to get a kids' version because it's just for me and I wanted to use it on the couch or in bed with me. The one I got weighed in at 7 pounds. br>br>So far, I'm pleased with the weight. When I put it on top of me in bed, I didn't like it. For some reason, this made me feel claustrophobic, which is not good for anxiety. I wanted my legs to be free, so I draped it over my torso, which I preferred. I've been sleeping with it for a few nights now, and I think it's more of a wrap than a blanket. I honestly found it too confining to be completely covered in this like a blanket, but I liked it when I wrapped it around my shoulders. To me, it appears that how you use it or what you enjoy is a personal matter. Wadding it up behind my back was also something I enjoyed. br>br>The reason I only gave it two stars is because, first and foremost. It had a chemical odor when I took it out of the package. I have chemical sensitivity and smell things that others do not smell, but when I ordered 100% cotton and glass beads I wasn expecting any off gassing like you can get I wanted to wash it to get rid of the odor, but the label says MADE IN CHINA and not to put it in the washer or dryer, and I wouldn't dry clean it either (nasty chemicals). The listing clearly states that it can be dry cleaned, but the label specifically states that it cannot. It suggests hand washing and drying on a line, which I assume means hanging. br>br>I'm not sure who washes a blanket by hand, but who does? Plus, you'll want to be able to rinse it, spin the water out, and rinse it again once you've gotten something out. I was irritated that something made of cotton and glass beads couldn't be washed on gentle or delicate in the washing machine! I wouldn't machine wash the larger ones, but this one isn't that big. Anyway, to get rid of some of the noxious chemical odor, I decided to put it in my steam dryer, figuring that if it was just cotton fabric and glass beads, there should be no problems. I kept the temperature low and kept a close eye on it. Some of the odor was reduced by using the steam dryer. After 24 hours, the rest had mostly dissipated. br>br>After drying, I felt the blanket and noticed some stuffing or batting inside the pockets, some of which appeared to be slightly bunched. Not a big deal, but batting or stuffing is almost never cotton, so the blanket with the beads must have some sort of poly filling or batting inside it. The label states 100% cotton fabric and No lead glass beads but no thing about batting or stuffing is mentioned. However, it's clear that there's something inside! br>br>I was also expecting even distribution of the beads for a $50 throw size weighted blanket. To begin with, it states that they are in small sections, but each section is larger than my hand! That is not a small section in my opinion. When you hold the blanket up to the light, you can see the beads, which may or may not be glass (I'm not sure because the label also says it's all cotton, which is obviously incorrect). You can also see how the beads fill the bottom of each square. Some squares had more filling than others, while others had almost none. br>br>Overall, I think the blanket is functional; I'm just disappointed that the blanket appears to be made of something I don't know about for $50. That's probably what I'll get if I buy something "made in China. " In addition, the pockets do not appear to be evenly filled as advertised, nor are they small. The sweet pattern is my favorite aspect of this, and the outside fabric appears to be cotton. I'm not sure I'd want to cover it, and even if I did, it'd have to go in the washer at some point. I'm hoping it doesn't fall apart completely. br>br>I'm curious as to what's inside the squares. I'm almost tempted to cut it open and sew it back together, but for the time being, I'll just leave it alone. Anyway, I'd give it a higher rating if it cost $25 and the contents of the pockets were fully disclosed. However, while I like the idea of a weighted cotton blanket filled solely with glass beads, I'm not sure that's what I got. br>br>Thank you for taking the time to read my review, Becky Brooks. br>br>.

The blanket is incredible
5/5

This blanket is absolutely gorgeous. Purchased for my three-year-old son, who is autistic. It appears to have a few years of life left in it. By the second night, I'd noticed a significant difference in the number of times he awoke and almost no tossing and turning. Because it isn't machine washable, I'd like to get a duvet cover for it. However, it was stated in the description, so I was aware of this prior to purchase. After I placed my order, it arrived in my mailbox two days later. Would suggest.

I'm not a fan
3/5

I decided to order a weighted blanket after hearing so many good things about them. After a week of use, I rate this blanket three out of five stars. When I'm falling asleep, I like to have the weight on my shoulders; it's soothing and comforting. But that thing is heavy as hell; I mean, I have to use my upper body strength to pull it with me when I try to roll over at night. What are people's strategies for dealing with such situations? Perhaps they don't move at night and remain pinned beneath the blanket until morning. br>Also, my dachshund wiggled under it and couldn't get out, so I had to pull him out. br>Certainly not for the frail or elderly. br>They also cannot be washed; they must be dry cleaned. That sucker would destroy your washing machine, and I can't imagine what it would do to a dryer. br>The same effect could be achieved by filling a garbage bag with 20 pounds of rice.

This is a great weighted blanket, especially for the price; it's of good quality, and the beads are evenly distributed
5/5

I don't think the blanket qualifies as a cooling weighted blanket because it warms up quickly. My son's anxiety is significantly reduced as a result of it. I, too, purchased one.

I'm getting a good night's rest now
5/5

This blanket is one of my favorites. I slept much better than I had in months the first night I was able to use it. On the early fall night sleeping under this 20 pound, I was not immobilized and felt free to change my sleeping position. I was also not unusually warm. The only problem was that I ordered the wrong size blanket: I ordered the 60" x 80" as recommended for a king size bed, but everything worked out much better after I returned the large blanket and received a 48" x 72" blanket. Unless all occupants are using the same blanket, it appears that the blanket should be sized for the individual using it rather than the bed. Again, I had a wonderful night's sleep with the smaller blanket; for me, this is a solution to a problem caused by recent surgery, and I am now getting a good night's sleep. The more nights I spend with this blanket, the better my sleep pattern appears to be. I absolutely adore this blanket, as I stated at the outset.

There aren't enough loops, it's too heavy, and it's too hot
3/5

I ordered a weight of 2010% of my body weight plus 1 lb extra as per the company instructions. This blanket was far too heavy for my liking. I had the sensation of being suffocated. Furthermore, the blanket did not have enough loops to attach to the blanket cover made by the same brand, causing the blanket to shift around in the cover and bunch up. Finally, the blanket/cover (minky cover) was simply too hot to bear. I used the blanket/cover combo with only a thin sheet underneath for a few nights in a room that was cooled to 71 degrees. Every night, I was hot and bothered.
