Selected User Reviews For Moen DN4408BN Vale Double Post Pivoting Toilet Paper Holder, Brushed Nickel
The image they use to promote this product is extremely deceiving. It appears to be very dark, but it is actually a standard brushed nickel finish, as others have pointed out. I hope the photos I took are a better representation of what I'm talking about. br>br>Installation was similar to that of any other piece of bathroom hardware. It comes with a paper template for lining up screw holes and is simple to install. The drywall anchors that come with it are of good quality and feel very secure in the wall after installation. br>br>I stuffed three of them in there; The first two went into the walls, while the third went into the vanity's side. It was just as effective in drywall as it was in wood.
Between each post span, add 1/2 to 1 inch. The holder is of good quality, and it comes with all of the necessary hardware. Simple to set up- However, one point should be made. At the wall, the base of the posts is wider. If you buy a large roll of toilet paper, you'll need to leave more space between posts to accommodate it, which the measuring tool's instructions don't allow for. So, if you follow the guide, you'll have to drill twice and hope that the base will cover the holes. (Only a few times, and I was extremely fortunate!) ) To see if it fits, look at the second photo. The spring cross bar portion is long enough to accommodate the additional space.
If you're going to install this, make sure you test it out by rolling it up and rotating it. I made the mistake of placing it too high, and when I rotated it up, it collided with the counter, preventing me from sliding a roll on. More holes had to be drilled, and the structure had to be lowered. The product has a nice finish, rotates easily, and holds its position well. The screws included appear to be far too long for most MDF vanities. The instructions include a helpful tracing tool that will help you level it and drill the holes precisely where they are needed, but. BE CAREFUL, because the instructions include both a tracing tool and a towel bar for this product. If you use the towel bar one by accident, you'll most likely drill holes in the wrong place.
After reading the numerous glowing reviews for this holder, I must admit that I am disappointed. I had previously installed the Moen Kingsley holder in another bathroom and was very pleased with it. However, this holder was 30% cheaper and I found the design attractive enough to order this one wondering how much different could it be? Well, it's different, and this is unquestionably a lower-quality product; however, I've finally realized that when a manufacturer offers two similar models at drastically different prices, the more expensive one is usually easier to install and provides a better installation. This is undeniably true in this instance. This model has a tiny set screw, but it's even worse because it's right next to the wall, so you can only turn it 180 degrees (a half turn), then remove the allen wrench, align it with the tiny screw again, and turn it another half turn, and so on. The set screw on the Kingsley model is far enough away from the wall that the allen wrench can be completely turned without having to remove it. The extra $15 for the Kingsley, in my opinion, is well worth the hassle of installation. Aside from the installation, the Kingsley is a much more substantial product; unlike the Vale, the Kingsley is entirely made of metal. The Kingsley, especially the matching towel ring, has a much more substantial feel to it. Is this sufficient? Yes, it is effective. However, if you want my opinion, spend the extra money on the Kingsley model. I wish I had had the opportunity.
WOW! ARE YOU AWARE OF THE OLD JOKE (I GUESS IT'S A JOKE! )? ) ABOUT MEN WHO DO NOT WANT TO CHANGE THEIR TOILET PAPER I WAS ONE OF THOSE GUYS, TOO- UNTIL THIS POINT! I LOVE IT SO MUCH THAT I TOLD MY 51-YEAR-OLD BRIDE THAT I WILL BE IN CHARGE OF CHANGING THE ROLL! br>br>IN FACT, EVEN BEFORE THE OLD ROLL IS EMPTY, I FIND MYSELF CHANGING THE ROLL! THIS WAS DESIGNED WITH HUSBANDS IN MIND! br>br>THIS WAS DESIGNED WITH HUSBANDS IN MIND! WE NEED TO COME TOGETHER!.
I bought several of these for each of our bathrooms, and they've all failed miserably, to the point where two of them are still in the package, and I'm refusing to install them. Our contractor installed the first one, and whenever we replace the toilet paper, one side falls off and must be screwed back in. This is causing damage to the other side of the holder, as well as causing weight to fall out of the wall, causing a hole. It needed to be patched and removed. We decided to give it a second chance and the same thing happened. I don't recommend this product; spend your money on something better.
I tried to save money here by using plastic where the arm meets the post, but you get what you pay for. In our master bathroom, we have the Kingston pivoting paper holder, which we love. There are no plastic parts in the Kingston, so you'd be better off spending the extra cash. We ordered three of these (two in bronze and one in silver). We returned the bronze and kept this one because it will be displayed in our cabin and we did not want to spend the extra money on it.
The holders are very nice. I like that the middle part isn't springy and won't fall out or break. Mounting them is fairly simple, with the exception that when using the mounting template to space the two hangers, the bar that holds the roll between the two posts is about 1/8 of an inch too long to appear seamless. Before I realized it, I had installed two.
