There were 16 ounces in my package.
There is very fine powder in it and it feels like flour when it isn't mixed. While the paste will be smooth when mixed with water, I am unsure how pure it will be.
You can add the recommended amount of tsp to smoothies just as you would add any other herb

I'd probably not buy this brand again as it does not seem as sweet as other licorice root I've had in the past.
The packaging was the only thing about this product I didn't like. There's something awkward about using it. My hands are covered in product as I try to retrieve it. There's no bad taste to the flavor. My tea with ginger doesn't require any sweetener when I add it to it.
