The bottle of 90 tablets' ingredients have changed over time, but I am not sure when. When I placed my order on 7/22/2015, I was excited to see it had dextrose, but disappointed to see instead xylitol.
There have been some changes to the ingredients and the label of this product. According to the bottle I received, there are 55 mg of anise seed powder in it. In addition to item 1, it also lists item There are 6 mg of stevia leaf powder in this product. In order to replace dextrose (a constituent of glucose), xylitol (a sugar alcohol) has been substituted. It is actually the glycyrrhizin in licorice that is sweet, not the licorice itself. To make it palatable, I guess they still need to add something sweet to it after they remove the sugar to avoid side effects like high blood pressure. This could also explain why anise powder is added to licorice, causing it to taste like licorice.
Does Amazon have a return slip you can obtain? It can be sent to me if they don't want it. I love it. Indigestion, stomach ache, and heartburn can be treated well with this product. This is a product that really stands out.

I appreciate it. Licorice roots are supposed to heal the esophagus and promote the regeneration of the mucus lining, so I used this to treat esophagitis from reflux. Because it has XYLITOL in it, which RELAXES the esophageal smooth muscle, it causes MORE acid to enter the stomach. I don't know who designed this product. It was obvious that no thought was given to that. Yeah, that's what I mean. My esophagitis ended up getting worse because of this. Thanks so much.
From the age of 19, I've suffered from heartburn on and off. This is Licorice, folks, don't waste your money on any other over the counter or prescription products that can deplete your body's nutrients.
This stuff hits my heart within 10 minutes, clean, chewable, and will relieve your painful heartburn within five minutes. A 20-minute session lasts a long time. DGL has been my go-to product for 7 months straight now, and I won't switch to anything else except baking soda and water if I run out. I think it's an excellent.
The anise seeds are so mild--it soothes and calms the stomach. Having tasted these tablets, I am not able to figure out how anyone could find the flavor offensive. Even if you dislike anise seeds (think pizelles), the benefits for stomach and intestinal health should more than make up for that. Water is like pouring water on a fire. Poof, the fire is out. As well as helping with gas and bloating, they work well.
Despite what the other reviewers say, I like the taste. I am not sure what the other reviewers mean. The product this reviewer reviewed is sweetened licorice, which is exactly what it tastes like. Xylitol is proven to reduce cavities and there is zero support for a claim that it relaxes the lower esophageal sphincter. If you Google the former, you'll find that the evidence is voluminous, while the latter shows that there is exactly no evidence at all.
It used to be that I bought these all the time, but they switched the formula to include They have helped heal my stomach lining due to ulcers, and I believe they were doing a good job up until this point. Each time I have tried to take these sweeteners I have been sick to my stomach. Every time I took one of them, for a few days afterward, I would have a stomach ache lasting 24 hours or more, but as soon as I stopped taking them, the pain would diminish. It was consistently the DGL that caused it. I tried to see if anything else in my diet was causing it. Taking these supplements was an essential part of my healing process, but I have had to completely stop taking them. The artificial sweeteners are added to too many other DGL products on Amazon as well. As long as you have no reactions to these ingredients, this is likely to be safe for you to use. However, for me, since they made this change, it caused me issues every single time.
As good as the old Enzymatic Therapy DGL, this tastes okay and works just as well.
They changed the formula and the product became less effective. After only a few minutes of nausea and heartburn, my stomach was experiencing severe pain, nausea and bloating. I tried other brands of DGL previously but this one was much better and within days my stomach was feeling better once more. This product is highly recommended if you have suffered from gastritis, ulcers, nausea, and heartburn.
Buy this product at your own risk! My health issue has been moderate to severe acid reflux and gastritis for quite some time. Natural Factors DGL has been an integral part of my regime for all this time. Recently, I received a delivery in which they changed some ingredients and made a bunch of horrible changes to the formula. (If you thought it tasted bad before you might agree that it tastes horrible now. chalky consistency because of the recent formula changes, but I have a problem with the artificial sweeteners that have been added to the formulation. A Stevia Leaf and Xylitol ingredient has been added to the ingredient list. WHO MADE IT? It has been known that Stevia is not particularly friendly to the digestive tract. Why then would you add it to a formula of an item designed for people with digestive problems? Despite the fact that I have serious issues digesting stevia products, I began to feel my stomach aching within 10 minutes of taking this product, instead of the usual relief I have relied on Natural Factors for in the past.
However, I just wanted to let you know that this product change will affect other customers. It's a deal breaker for me. It will probably be a deal breaker for you too if you suffer from stomach problems (which I assume you do if you're taking this product). Stevia's effect on the digestive tract can be analyzed, and you should choose a brand that doesn't make your condition worse simply because it's cheaper.
