The top ring is just a metal bar that has been bent. It is not fixed shut which seemed silly to me, but it doesn't really have to be that strong. In use, the snaps that hold the ring close are not of the best quality and barely stay closed with a light tug, but in theory they're functional when it comes to holding the ring in place. It's typical Strict Leather stuff, it cuts a few corners, but you end up paying 1/4 the price and getting something that really works Having said that, the edges aren't as perfect as the one with Mr S, but they are perfectly acceptable and do not cause any problems.
