Questions & Answers

Is there anything I can use as foot pads if I need to lift the wheelchair to pass over a threshold or a stair? Thanks. ?

Yes. For a 3-day trip, I used this model of Drive transport wheelchair. with my father for a three-day weekend Each side has a rubber-like texture, as you can see in the photos. Inside each rear wheel is a padded tube that extends from the back. You can use your foot to push down on either one while using your hands to pull back the handles at the top. This allows the chair to be lifted over a small ridge or bump. Just take care! This isn't intended for use in a public place. roading.

Warranty is not honored
3/5

After only a year of ownership, during which time it was primarily used to transport my mother-in-law, I decided to sell it. A weld on the right footrest on the way from the car to church and back snapped. Despite the fact that the chair has a "Limited Lifetime" warranty, Drive refused to honor it when I contacted them about a warranty replacement. As a result, I cannot recommend the product because I do not support businesses that misrepresent their products and services.

STAY AWAY FROM YET ANOTHER GARBAGE PRODUCT
3/5

The rear wheel of the vehicle failed. It's only been 7 months since I got it. I'm only 170 pounds, so it's not like I'm a giant. There is no excuse for this because it has only been used inside. Because I am an amputee, I require a long-lasting solution because my leg will not regrow. Drive and other medical companies appear to believe that selling disposable items is acceptable. It isn't, to be sure. This is something I can no longer afford to do. The worst part is that they won't care if they get a bad review because these medical companies don't take pride in their products. They don't give a damn about their clients. 12/7/2019: br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>b Update. The wheel has been replaced twice and both times the bearings have blown out or the incorrect size has been sent. So I'm still stuck with a useless product that I'll have to discard because it won't fix itself. DRIVE MEDICAL may be able to recommend a reputable company from which to purchase a transport chair, but do yourself a favor and stay away from this product, as well as Drive chairs in general. They are truly a waste of time.

BUY THIS CHAIR AT YOUR OWN RISK
3/5

A small elderly person with Parkinson's disease used this for only a few days before it broke. When the elderly person sat in the chair, the frame area that held the seat to the side frame actually separated. The issue is a clear manufacturing flaw, and I purchased the chair to keep this person with Parkingon's safe. I wish I had known the chair was defective and dangerous before I spent my money on it. br>br>When I contacted Amazon to return the item, I was told that no returns were allowed.

Even better than I had anticipated
5/5

I ordered this wheelchair as a replacement for my husband, and when it arrived, I was concerned that it would be too small because I had ordered the 17" model rather than the 18" model. the 19". My husband tried it out and raved about how much he liked the smaller size, so I've ordered a second one to keep in the car. He can move around freely inside the house because of his size. It gives him far more independence and security than the office chair he had been using for mobility purposes inside the house. I am extremely pleased with my purchase and would strongly recommend it to others.

It's still one of my favorites
5/5

My 5' 2" 150 lb mother had been using an old school but plain folding wheelchair for outings because she didn't have the strength to walk very far with her walker. I bought this lightweight version a long time ago, and every time I use it, I send happy, grateful thoughts up to the designers. It now resides in the trunk of the RAV4. 4, which is held in place by some bungie cords and is ready whenever you are. I appreciate the lighter weight when getting in and out of the car, the simple fold, and how compact it is, leaving plenty of room in the back, and I appreciate the back wheel brakes - What a brilliant idea! The compactness is aided by the way the back folds down. I have one piece of advice for the designers and two cautionary notes for potential buyers. If I were the designers, I'd make the foot platforms fold closer together. My mother's feet are prone to slipping out. To potential purchasers: This is the only one where my mother will fit. It's a small space. I believe there is a larger size, but because of the narrow seat and the placement and relative size of the wheels, it allows for much easier maneuverability through doors and down store isles. Another drawback is that the chair's wheel size and weight make it unsuitable for covering extremely rough terrain - Whether it's bumpy concrete or earth/yards, it'll be a challenge. The traditional design makes it easier for her to get over bumps and door thresholds while also providing more comfort. Overall, though, it's a huge step forward.

As a transport chair, it's ideal
4/5

It has a nice appearance and appears to be sturdy. There are no issues with aluminum construction. The seat appears to be made of a durable material (black woven) with about 1" padding, but it is pulled taunt between the two sides, as is typical of wheelchairs. It has 4- In contrast to a standard wheelchair with two large wheels, the occupant of a small wheeled wheelchair can propel themselves. with which you should navigate In addition, the occupant has no control over the brakes or locks - unreachable - If you're looking for a unique way to express yourself The two back wheels are low to the ground. To self-regulate, the occupant must be able to move their legs. Make use of this chair (as if you were walking while sitting); & It does not appear that the brake/locks are required to raise the chair; otherwise, it appears to be better suited to a situation where someone is always pushing/steering. It's possible that it'll be ideal for packing into a vehicle because it folds flat. It's not too heavy. It was bought to clear existing doorways, and it does, with maybe 1/2" to spare? Plan to return due to the reduced steering due to the small wheels. The occupant struggled to get through the doorway. He didn't get much of a leg up on the competition. Someone with more strength, perhaps. It would be easier to master if you had more agility. br>It's a good idea to think about your abilities. requirements of the intended user.

It's great for portability (it's so light), but it only works on flat surfaces
4/5

This transport chair is so light and folds up so small that it fits in any car we've tried (including one of my family members' compact car). The only reason this isn't a five-star product is that it doesn't go over any bumps or door lips very well. The threshold in our bedroom is slightly angled on both sides, but it is more than a quarter inch high in the center. There have been times when the car has stopped in its tracks while driving over it, causing me to be startled. To get around such obstacles, you'll need a lot of speed. It's also difficult to transport in parking lots with uneven surfaces. But, because I have to be in a wheelchair all of the time (and I'm only 42), it's ideal for when I have to ride in a car with a family member or friend who can't accommodate my electric wheelchair.
