Because I have cerebral palsy, I only have one arm that I use while my other arm flails about and does its own thing and I can't hold things steady with the arm that has its own mind. This was used by me in grade school to hold my paper as I wrote with my good arm using pencil or pen. In addition to sticking things to the counter, I use it to help me fix meals or hold things steady that would otherwise slide.

My son is house-bound and has limited use of his left hand. As such, when eating he really can't hold his bowl or plate with one hand and feed himself with the other. So the occupational therapist gave me a small piece to sell as a placemat to him. He doesn't have to worry about his bowl sliding around when this is used as a placemat. If he feeds himself easier, he will feel a lot better!.
