I slowed down on my long runs. I may not use them every time, but I do whenever I go out for my long runs. You are no longer suffering from shin splints with eight mile runs. I love it. I have thin ankles and calf muscles. My calves are 15 inches long (and the tops of my calves are 15 inches long). The decision between a M and a L was difficult for me As for the M, I chose it. I have to rest for a moment before taking them off, so if I am exhausted after running a long distance, I need to take them off after resting. I would choose the L even if I was a bit over 15 inches. Despite this, my muscles are tight, but I don't have any pain, so they're likely doing the job they're supposed to.
