Replacement screens for these are made of stainless steel, according to their description. Accordint to PAX's web site, the vapor path and oven are made from a type of stainless steel that is commonly used in medical devices. It is possible that they include the same type of stainless steel (I didn't even know there were different kinds), but at least they aren't made of I would definitely recommend it to my friends. They are on my shopping list right now, so I will be trying them out myself.

Quite a bit of fuzz is left behind in the vapor tube after the pipe cleaners have been used. The first time I used just one fuzz ball, I blew out full literal globs of fur. Although I have tried repeatedly (yes, putting it at an angle, all the rest) to use the metal screens, they are unable to do the job as well as the official PAX screens. It works for me to soak my pax screen in some isopropyl alcohol for a few hours or overnight every few months or so Depending on how much you stir/repack, it can last 6 - 8 uses), and scraping with a toothpick or sharp metal edge does the trick to clean it before repurposing it.
