Yes, detergent and softener are still used. This product is extremely effective, and my dog's blankets are no longer obnoxious.
It irritates me that there are no directions on the bottle! This is unforgivably bad! I found out the other day that I had been misusing it. Do not mix it with your laundry detergent (as I have). The detergent, for some reason, prevents this from working properly. For HE washers, add TWO capfuls to the first line; for non-HE washers, add TWO capfuls to the second line. Washing machines with high efficiency (HE). THEN, if your washer is capable of doing this, good luck: Put in the final rinse, which should last for at least 16 minutes. Really? By the way, I found out about this by looking up Lysol Sanitizer instructions on the internet.

Two stars for value for money because two of these size bottles are overpriced. It would be less expensive to buy two from the store. It was just convenient because none of the stores had this product, which is amazing in its own right. Don't let the negative review fool you into thinking it's a bad idea. I'll just go to more stores next time.
The bottles appeared to be well-wrapped in bubble wrap, so I ordered two, and one of them had leaked in the box, spilling all over my hands and the bubble wrap. I had a difficult time unwrapping them because they were leaking and the liquid got all over the scissors I had to use to remove the bubble wrap. Disappointed to say the least.
