The whole thing has to stay in place to be washed. I like it because the hot water bottle comes with a soft fuzzy cover that cannot be removed to wash it. It will remain in my possession, but when it gets dirty, I will have to throw it out. You don't need to buy this if you just want to clean your.

The price was so cheap I was skeptical it would really work and I suffer from PMS, and this saved me, so I boiled water, let it cool down for 10 mins then put it in ( I used a cup to do this) and this lasts 3 days. It's been 4 hours since it's been warm.
