Questions & Answers

Is it made up of a single piece of flexible plastic after you peel it out of the tray? Is the flexible part laminated to a rigid part, or is it separate?

Once it's been fitted, you remove the mouth guard, which is made up of a soft silicon part with your tooth impressions embedded in it and a tougher translucent foundation that keeps you from biting through it. Those two "layers" must stay together. The white plastic tray can be thrown away.

What exactly is the purpose of this? In the warning section of the pamphlet, it clearly states that it is not for tmj or grinding teeth at night?

This is what it says: The DenTek Comfort-Fit Dental Guard is a night guard that prevents teeth grinding at night. It does state not to use it if you are experiencing pain from grinding, which could indicate a more serious issue.

Is there a phone number I can call to get help fitting these? I'm sure I made a mistake. When I was sleeping, mine fell out on the floor. ?

It's the same with mine. On my second attempt, I bit down on the mold so hard that I thought I'd strain my jaw muscles, but the dental guard still falls off with even the tiniest movement of the mouth.

It's a great way to save money while also avoiding being taken advantage of by your dentist! I've been using this product for at least a decade, and it keeps getting better with each update
5/5

My first mouthguard was made specifically for me. It was made for a large sum of money ($100s, as I recall) by my dentist, and it lasted about a year. I decided that was far too much money, so I purchased one of these for around $20. I can now use them for more than a year without having to replace them. They are well-fitting and do not cause any discomfort while sleeping. The formed part eventually separates from the flexible plastic outer guard, but this takes months and you can still use it until it is completely separated. Brushing it thoroughly every time you brush your teeth is the key to keeping it clean and sanitary. Unless you have some unusual dental problems, you can ignore the "don't wear for more than 6 months" advice. Except for bruxism (tooth grinding), I don't have any. br>br>One piece of advice: Practice a couple of times before heating the new mouth guard and inserting it into your teeth to ensure proper alignment. I prefer to heat it over water on the stove rather than in the microwave because I am more confident in that method. br>br>Two additional suggestions: br>br> When you've properly heated the mouth guard (follow all instructions) and are ready to put it in your mouth, don't bite down too hard, and leave just a little bit of room in front of your front teeth for some of the silicone to remain there as you bear down with your bite. If you bite down too hard, you'll hit the flexible plastic outer guard, weakening the silicone's bond to the outer guard and reducing the life of your mouth guard significantly. Remember that your back teeth are the ones that grind and wear the most, so you'll want a little more "cushion" there than in the front, so bite down with more pressure on your front teeth than on your back teeth. I know it sounds strange, but try it a few times and you'll understand what I mean. br>br>Third suggestion: Once you've bitten down on the new mouth guard, keep it in place until the directions say to let go, then slowly remove it from your teeth. At first, it will want to stick, and you don't want to yank the crowns off while removing it. Swish some water around in your mouth if necessary, and then gently remove the guard from your teeth. If something doesn't work the first time, you can try again, but the mouth guard will most likely not last as long or fit as well, so get it right the first time! Practice!.

It's not a good idea to do that! Save your money and your jaw, teeth, and throat by staying away from this product
3/5

I rarely write Amazon reviews, but after ordering these due to the pandemic that has limited my access to stores, I now know that I will never buy Dentek products again, even in the most dire of circumstances. For the past five years, I have worn dental guards. Because of stress and other issues, I grind my teeth so loudly at night that it wakes up my partner and sometimes even me. So far, I've gone through several pairs of dental guards; they usually last about 6 months each, but I don't mind replacing them if they fit well and don't cause me any sleep disturbances. br>br>First issue: Fitbr>The first set of moldable dental guards I used were from Dentek, and I remember hating how bulky they were because I couldn't close my mouth with them. I'd also eat them up in less than three months. Thankfully, I've discovered other brands, mostly pharmacy brands from Riteaid and Walgreens, that fit much better, aren't as bulky, last longer, and usually cost twice as much as this dentek! br>br>This time, I was hoping for a different outcome. That was not the case! I'm a woman, and it's possible that this product is more effective for men, but I'm skeptical. But, first and foremost, despite the fact that the product is molded in the same way as any other dental guard, getting the right fit on the first try is much more difficult! Other excellent products include an extra piece that allows you to widen or narrow the plastic holder to fit your mouth. This dentek product doesn't, which means you're essentially forced to fit your mouth shape into the shape of the plastic holder, with very little room for adjustment. This meant that on my first try, the mold came out lopsided, and when I closed my mouth, not only was the dental guard loose, but only one side touched part of my bottom teeth, while the other side did not, indicating that I would definitely have jaw alignment issues. Again, I am someone who wears dental guards all the time, so this wasn't just a case of me not knowing what I was doing. br>br>Issue 2: Issuance 2: Issuance 2: Issuance 2: Issu Durabilitybr>Because I was forced to redo the molding due to the defective design and the bulkiness of the product, I now have a product that is already falling apart (please see photos). Furthermore, while the fit was better than my first attempt, it still had alignment issues, but it was tighter in some ways, making it less likely to fall off. The product, on the other hand, forced me to keep my mouth open in an uncomfortable manner. br>br>Issue 3: Issuance 3: Issuance 3: Issuance 3: Issu The effect on sleep - Issues with my throatbr>Last night, I coughed four times. My throat became extremely dry throughout the night as a result of this product forcing me to keep my mouth open, and I was worried I was going to get sick with a dry cough. When it woke me up the last time, I decided to remove the product and voila, no coughing for the rest of the night. br>br>Questions 4 and 5: Pricebr>As I previously stated, you can get other great products that usually come with two mouth guards for the same price as this Dentek! It is far more worthwhile for you to purchase a product with similar reviews to this one that will at the very least provide you with two dental guards rather than just one. It's simply not worth it, and I've now wasted $20 on something I didn't even get to wear for one night! Yes, dental guards can be difficult to adjust to at first, but this was not the case in this case. If you ordered these because you were as desperate as I was and are having the problems I mentioned above, please know that this is not normal and that you can easily find another guard that will suit your needs better! Don't give up and put on this dreadful item; it can cause far more harm than good.

Not appropriate for a professional: it's unsettling This dental guard did not fit well, despite the fact that it molds to your teeth
3/5

It's so big that I couldn't even close my mouth comfortably. My jaw hurt so much that I couldn't sleep with it in. I tried it on for five nights before giving up and requesting a refund through DenTek's 30-Day Money Back Guarantee. I've emailed them twice and sent them the proof of purchase they requested, but I haven't received a response after nearly three weeks. Customer service is abysmal and the fit is poor.

It's quite good
4/5

I've been making night guards for dental offices for quite some time now. (Impression models were not included in this purchase. ) The dental models' sole purpose is to demonstrate how it fits. This night guard is fairly comparable; however, please note that the front teeth in my photos have about a 2mm margin. In comparison to other homemade guards, this one wraps around the entire arch; please note that my mouth is smaller. I gave this night guard a four out of five star rating because I believe it should be tighter fitting and that more material should be provided for you to wrap around your teeth. However, it is ideal for use at home as a low-cost night guard.
