Approximately the width of a twin bed is taken up by the padded area. Fabric is used to cover the sides of the mattress, which are meant to tuck under the mattress to secure it. As constructed, it would not completely cover the width of a full-size bed, so I would not advise you to lay it down. It would also not be possible to secure it in place by tucking the sides under.
Vinyl is used to make the waterproof barrier.
It hasn't caused any problems for me, so I'm not sure. This protection can still be provided by the fitted sheet, if it is placed underneath it or over it. There will only be a slight soak on the pad, but not on the sheet. My experience has been great so far.

My mother is 92 years old and has Alzheimer's disease. I am her caregiver. Many changes are occurring when it comes to this disease, all of which must be addressed immediately. In the last month, she stopped getting up in the night to use the bathroom, despite having depends, using extra pads, using booster pads, I still have to use extra pads. In theory, this would protect her sheets and mattress, and relieve her of the additional chore of washing bedsheets every day. Upon setting this on top of her bed first thing in the morning, it was fully soaked, but not a single drop leaked onto her Even though there was still some laundry to do, the tasks were considerably reduced, and I was thrilled with the results. It covers a large portion of the bed and is a great size. It is my intent to always have a clean pamphlet on hand in the morning I have just ordered a second one. It has been a long time since I ordered diapers for my youngest. As I have already purchased two other soft pads from Buy Buy Baby, I wanted to purchase one more as my other child also uses these. Ultimately, this one will not be used since I dislike the feel of My two existing ones were much smoother and softer. This one was much rougher and scratchier. My original intent was to return it, but I see that there is a $5 fee. It will cost me just 99 cents to do so, which is half the price of the product, so I will just keep it as a backup in case I wash both of my better ones at the same time.
