The delicate cycle in my washing machine and dryer is used to wash and dry them. This is my first time using them, and I've been very impressed with how well they've held up over numerous washes. My wife likes them, and I wouldn't have any problem ordering more if I needed to.
Whether you wash them in hot or cold water is up to you. The fabric can be bleached to get stains out, but bleaching too much can wear it out, so only bleach if necessary.
The dryer can be used with them. The heat setting on your dryer should be set to permanent press if it gets too hot.
Having a blanket on it would have been better as it could have breathed. Horses could sweat through the pads because they have a water-resistant side.
