Questions & Answers

What's the frequency with which you switch it out?

These are never changed because I am a nurse. They are placed over an incision and are removed once they have peeled away from the incision on their own. If the wound continues to drain beneath the dressings and they begin to fall off on their own, additional wound care is required. The procedure is as follows: surgical incision, 14-day staples, these until they fall off on their own, healed. You can't just pull a wound together with these in every situation; it may appear to be healing on the surface but is actually abscessing beneath. A wound should heal from the bottom up and inwards, rather than from top to bottom.

Is it possible to shorten these strips with bandage scissors?

Yes. Because you'll be putting these directly over a wound, make sure the scissors you're using are clean. Also, make sure the surface you're applying the strips to is completely dry before attempting to apply the steri strip. I work in surgery and we frequently use 3M steri strips; at home, clean the wound, blot it dry with a clean towel, and keep it on the wound until it is dry. After that, apply the steri strip. If the wound is dry, it will stay on. Sutures, not steri strips, are required to stop bleeding from a wound.

Is anyone familiar with the color of these?

No, but they are extremely thin, to the point where color can seep through. They are threaded with white filament (approximately 4 per 5/8" width strip).

Garbage in every way
3/5

Any first aid or emergency kit should have wound closure bandages in it. We purchased a box to test the product, and it was a complete failure. Because the contents of the box we received are so old, they should qualify for a senior discount. The paper covering the adhesive strips breaks down into tiny pieces, and the closures are completely useless. Purchase from a different source.

Adhesive isn't very good
3/5

I picked up a package of steri strips at my doctor's office and decided to give them a try since I was about to run out. There is no way to compare the two. These are a thousand times worse. They barely cling to the wall. I apply a small amount of Aquaphor to the wound and then cut the steri stips to cover the area, as instructed by my doctor. To get these steri strips to stick at all, I had to make them twice as long. I suppose they should only be used on bare skin without any antibiotic cream. If you have to use them with an ointment, I wouldn't recommend them. br>br>Creative+ paraphrase: I've decided to return them as a result of this review. They are useless because they do not stay on the skin (even without ointment). I was taken aback by the number of glowing reviews.

When used correctly, it's fantastic! These are fantastic! As a nurse, I use them all the time in the hospital, especially on patients who need orthopedic surgery
5/5

They do work, believe me. I've read that they don't work in some reviews. It's obvious that they're not utilizing them properly. These are identical to the ones I tried. br>These are the items in my sons' first aid kit that I use the most. When the guys cut themselves with pocket knives at camp, I have these on hand. br>I use soap and water to clean the wound. After that, apply antiseptic to the affected area. I waited for the antiseptic to dry before using it again. I enjoy switching up my skin from time to time. If the cut is new, I use gauze and, if necessary, Coband to keep dirt and bacteria at bay. It's amazing if you use it correctly. br> It has reduced the number of visits to the doctor's office.

I had major surgery that required staples to heal the wound, and after the staples were removed by the doctor, he covered the wound with suture strips
3/5

I bought these thinking they were the same kind, but the only thing they have in common with the sutures I already have is their appearance. I placed a set of these sutures over my wound just like the doctor did, but they didn't want to stick very well and only stayed on for a few hours. I thought maybe I did something wrong with my placement, so I cleaned the area around the wound with soap and water and even went over my skin with alcohol to make sure there was no oil that would cause the sutures to not stick. They lasted a few hours longer, perhaps 4 hours total, before the tops of the sutures began to pull away, followed by spots all over the suture until they were completely useless. The suture adhesive is a complete waste of money and should not be sold at all. DO NOT PURCHASE, and if you do want to purchase these to help prepare, as I see a lot of people doing, I strongly advise you to open a pack and try them out for yourself before you actually need them in an emergency situation, because these sutures will most certainly let you down. My only regret is that I didn't read the reviews before purchasing them because I've seen other people complain about the poor quality of the adhesive. I'm not writing this review to help you save money because they are both cheap in price and cheap in quality; rather, I'm writing it to help you save time if you ever find yourself in a medical emergency and need to use a product that actually works and does what it claims to do. Neither of these sutures are effective!.

I got these as a cut
3/5

I placed another order and adhered to the instructions. My sister, who works as a nurse, applied some of these to a cut I had. They were absolutely fantastic. I placed another order and adhered to the instructions. I couldn't get them to stick to begin with. I'm not sure if the product is faulty or if I applied them incorrectly, but I followed my sister's instructions to the letter.

It does not adhere to the surface and peels away easily
3/5

These were purchased to close a separating suture that had been removed after the stitches had been removed. The strips didn't stop peeling! When I saw my surgeon, he put one of his steri strips (different brand) over my incision, and the next day I decided to put a 3M strip next to it, with no tension. Next to his, I was just laid out like a sticker. The 3M ones peel in a day because of the tension, which is exactly what they're designed for! As you can see, the 3M strips aren't very durable. These are a complete waste of time and money. Change the brand you're buying!.
