When you apply this cream to an area that is irritated, make sure it is dry completely before applying. It is less irritating than the name brand. During the summer, I find this to be extremely effective as a cream under my brows. Even during the melting hot days of 90 degree weather, I used it to keep cool. Cleansing the area, making sure it is dry, and applying the cream twice a day is what I do. I don't smell a strong medicinal scent coming from this cream. I squeezed a little out to wipe it off because I thought it was something that I accidently got on it. It turned out to be a growth in the cream, and I had to squeeze it out about an inch before most of it disappeared. I threw it away because it was disgusting.
