A small cardboard box in which it was packaged was fine, but a thin layer of bubble wrap just for extra safety could have been useful. As a result of hitting them with the bat, they broke as they should have, as they were not fragile in the sense that you had to handle them thoughtfully. A decent amount of powder was inside, which provided a good grip on the bottle Upon being broken, the powder turns into a cloud-sized cloud of blue powder. For the most part, the pieces that broke were large enough to be tracked down and picked up without them being flung through a window by the lawnmower. Several of the broken pieces did have some pointy edges, although they were not dangerously sharp or pointed, so use caution when handling them.
I think this is a great gift idea for someone who played baseball but is soon to become a dad. Although, I would suggest not taking the ball out of the box before the reveal day because both the ball and the box come with tags that reveal the gender (not a great idea). We found a blue power line near the plug on ours that would have been impossible to see without removing the ball and inspecting it. Make sure to wipe down the ball and inspect it thoroughly before you play because ours had blue power lines. Even so, the ball explodes nicely, and there is a lot of excitement.
There was a lot of force applied to the ball, which barely cracked As the powder fell to the ground, it just sort of plumped at the batter's feet. It seemed as if everyone was geared up with a camera to capture the burst of powder as seen on video, and the guests and expecting couple just stared in disbelief. I am very pleased since my son plays baseball, and this is the coolest thing I've ever seen. You get good value for your money! You should use a real baseball bat to hit that thing! One can be bought at Walmart for a low price!.
We received the baseballs just two days after ordering them and they were individually packaged along with tags identifying the gender and powder type. Baseballs were of top quality and would easily break with a wooden softball bat without any problem. It is a great idea for future gender reveals and I am sure to recommend it to family and friends.
