Is the design on both sides of the mug? Yes, it is on both sides.
This is something I'm not sure about. Since the mug is made in China, it is glazed both inside and out, so if lead were present in the ceramic, it would be covered with the glaze.

This mug is incredibly easy to stain and is not of the highest quality. The mug I use for my hot tea is probably one of the most difficult to keep clean on the inside of all the mugs I own. Upon its arrival, it was already staining and looking grungy. After the first week, it had already gotten tea stains. After using Oxiclean to clean it again, it is somewhat frustrating that it cannot be cleaned like my other mugs, as it is thin and lightweight. I would not trust it to be put through a dishwasher, as it is thin and lightweight.
The book pile that goes with the cup and what it reads inspired me to get it for my father. The size of the coffee cup was great to me. The opposite is true. Despite its size, it's not very large. In my opinion, there's no reason to charge $16 for such a little product. It's not a good idea.

Amazing cup! I love it so much! The moment I saw this cup, I knew I just had to own it (giggle). I'm a book addict (good ones only of course). Right now I have a stack of "to read" books and I still continue to buy so that as I read, my stack grows. So this is why I fell in love with the I like the design and feel of the product.
